Ok, this may simply be a lack of info on my part, but seriously, what is the deal with Clover going out of business after one game? I personally loved Okami, and convinced my friends to buy it, and they subsequently loved it. Is it merely because Americans are too Halo/Resistance/Gears centric that they can't acknowledge good original games, or was it something else that caused Capcom to break up Clover? I for one would have loved to see more games by Clover, and I sincerely hope that I am not alone in this opinion. This was an amazing studio with great ideas, and it was a tragedy to see it go under.

I agree with you, I am American, but I feel that the main gaming audience nowadays is the group that used to beat us up in junior high, and it seems that the industry has somewhat forgotten about the people who like innovative games.

Why is Microsoft breaking up Ensemble? Why does the Halo Trilogy Soundtrack not contain Halo 2 Volume 1? Why does my library insist that the have every Dune novel when in reality they have less than half?

Why anything?

Their games didn't sell well enough, so Capcom dropped them. Plain and simple.

I'm glad that afterwards they decided to form their own game company. So we can expect more great games from them (Madworld looks soooooo awesome).

Everyone garbled about how amazing Okami was but nobody bought it. I didn't even buy it until it came to the Wii, lol.

because people would rather buy Brain Training on the DS and have it in the charts since the BEGINNING OF TIME

If they have everything by Frank Herbert and nothing by his bastard offspring and that hack who writes Star Wars jerk-off fiction, then they have every Dune novel.

I tried reading that prelude backwards to see if I could unread it, but to no avail.

They also made Viewtiful Joe and Godhand.

Still, I don't know why they killed Clover.
Oh my god.

I'll never love like that again.

And I'm suddenly a hell of a lot more excited about Madworld.

Well, they made their own company, Platinum Games a while ago, so don't be too sad, four games are scheduled to be released soon, Infinite Space, Bayonetta, Mad World and a fourth secret one.

True. Why don't I own a Wii?

Though I'm about as much a gamer as one can be a gamer without fusing themselves with their circuitry, I didn't even hear about Okami until Clover was dead and buried. I saw the rare web comic about a flaming dog and had no idea what they were talking about.

I rented it for the Wii. Pretty crappy control scheme, I'm afraid [edit - well, no, in retrospect my problem with it was it kept thinking my Wiimote was disconnected when I had some fresh batteries in it]. Artistically, it was quite excellent, though.

(Edit: I'm not sure why I said that - my main point here was just that Okami slipped under the radar for me, possibly other people as well.)

Crappy control scheme? On the Wii? Really?

I can't speak for the Wii drawing system, but I own the ps2 version, and I feel that it was better. For me it was easier to draw with an analog stick, and the ps2 version actually credits Clover and has an awesome credit sequence. Clover got basically no recognition on the Wii, and the ending credits were cut, resulting in quite some anger by former members of the studio.

I'm still not sure about Okami, feels too much like Zelda to me. I'm only 2.5 hours through though so I'll wait till I'm finished to make a final judgement.

I'm American. I don't like Halo, but I do like Gears. I also loved Okami and bought it for the PS2, traded it in a bought it again for the Wii. I also love Shadow of the Colossus and Psyconauts. Thanks for stereotyping.

I'm glad you took the time to read this thread, I stated that I was American as well. Am I not allowed to make statements about my own culture? Of course not all American gamers are like this, there is always the gray area.

sadly, this is still a game I have been meaning to grab for ages now. I have heard from numerous people that it is one of the better games on the wii, so maybe when I am finally finished college this spring, ill grab it as a gift for myself.

i heard a rumor that capcom killed clover because the principal members were already on their way out the door.

at least that makes a hell of a lot more sense.

I like the newer novels, but they're not nearly as good as the elder Herbert's.

But no they have Dune, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Dune: The Machine Crusade, Dune: House Atreides, and Dune: House Corrino.

Of course I own every one except Dune: Messiah and Paul of Dune so it doesn't bother me much.
