Just finished it last month, and it was the best game I ever played. I think the only thing that bothered me was how the game never told me the big red statues were actually chests. You have to dot their eyes to open them

It's magical.

50+ hours of joy in one of the most imaginative, surreal, enchanting gameworlds ever made.

My one complaint, however, is that combat is pretty poor, more often than not it's just a button mashing fest, thanfully, the combat is a very small portion of the game.
I kinda liked the combat - sure it wasn't very deep or challenging but hey it was functional and looked pretty!

EDIT: Now the digging minigame, on the other hand... FUUUUUU-
Well, I've only played it on the Wii, so that may have tainted my view somewhat.

The celestial brush mechanics work great with the wiimote.

The combat though, not so much. Dodging was completely unreliable since the nunchuck was terrible at detecting motion, let alone which direction, and hitting stuff was basically just waving the wiimote until stuff was dead.

But, yeah it looked great :D
.

You only played it on the wii?

You right to that avatar is revoked!

OT: Great game , but why are you postin a thread about a great game instead of playing the great game? YOUR DOING IT WRONG!( and if it wasn't clear the game is great).

Try breaking the last wall demon for its stray bead. Grrrrrrrrrrr!

But Okami is all kinds of brilliant, nonetheless. :)

its a great game, i love how the environments actually change when you help people. the only game i can think of that is Assassins Creed Brotherhood, but the changes are so small you dont fully notice. Okami though, its a burst of colour when you save the land :)

Just a heads up, it starts slow, the humour can be rather juvenile at times and the story can be a wee bit cliched.
However, its flaws are easily overlooked due to everything else it does being awesome.

I bought it for the Wii after a recommendation from Daystar Clarion and.......I loved it, the music was good, the art style was gorgeous and the Japanese mythology was in my mindset and right up my street after coming back from Japan.

Under-rated game if you ask me.

Bloody brilliant. Best Zelda-style-adventure-game-that-is-not-a-zelda game that there ever was. Even better than Beyond Good & Evil. Hell, I would even say it is better than most Zelda games for that matter. Great story, characters, art, world, music, everything. Great impulse buy there. You are in for one hell of a treat my friend. :)

I have the Wii version and it's simply one of the best games available for the Wii, and certainly one of the best "Zelda clones" ever made, even signifficantly improving upon it's inspiration in many ways.

The difficulty was just right, not too easy and not too hard, sometimes leaning towards a bit hard (at least for me), also the use of the brush felt like second nature using the wiimote and I didn't have many complaints about the combat system with the wiimote and nunchuck (except for the dodging skill, wich is completely broken with the nunchuck).

I almost cried when I finished the game, not because it was sad, but because it had to finish.

You certainly did an impulsively-intelligent purchase.

Everyone's pretty much said just about everything there is to say on many different views, but...

Personally, it is one of the greatest, if not *the greatest* single title in the PS2 library. The art, the soundworld, ambience, style, story up until that almost-very-ending part (you who played know what that is), but at the final boss it becomes great again.

Combat is one of the things that keeps splitting people and their opinions. On one hand it's repetitive with the two-button combat (yes, I said *TWO*, remember the alternative weapon and their functions) and Mist brush power. Then again they have many enemies that have alternative ways to be killed through the use of powers.

Environments... Gold. Solid gold. There are many places with their own style and music, looks and feel and whatnot.

And all in all, it is/was Clover's swansong, and what a beautiful one it is.

Buckle up, it's a long, *long* game though.

Well i cant really add anything to whatever has already been said.

Other than that, Okami is really deserving of the title of 'Cult Classic', its brilliant in many areas, but not in such a way that draws the masses.

Just clearing up a misconception you got there, God Hand was Clovers swan song, having come out later than Okami in every region.

I didn't particularly care for it. It just never seemed to end and dragged on. It felt repetitious. I had it on the Wii, so combat was pretty waggly and simplified, so that didn't help.

What do I think about Okami?

It's a damn shame people overlooked it when it came out. But I'm glad someone decided to check it out.

Okami is the greatest Zelda game ever made, hands down. It's by no means perfect, but what it does good it does DAMN GOOD. It does start out slow (especially if since you can't skip cutscenes, some lasting well over 10 minutes), but it doesn't take long to get really good. Immersion is great, brush is a great mechanic with involving the player with the environment, and while cliched (...and easy -sidenote-), the story in the grand scope and the finer details work very well. Damn it, just play it. You're almost guaranteed over 30 hours (especially if you take your time). Skyward Sword at 20 hour point dragged a lot more than Okami did at hour 40 for me (and I was nowhere near done).

Mind you, I play it on the PS2.

Here's my Opinion of Okami: MEH

Honestly, I hated the artwork, and the gameplay was awful, so yea.

The best way to describe Okami is that it's a Zelda game that pretty much did everyhting better.
Exactly as I would describe it. Okami is the only game that has managed to take the Zelda formula and improve on it I enjoyed every second of this game and that is pretty rare, even in the games I would rank as better than Okami there is usually a few parts I disliked but not so in this game everything was spot on combat was responsive if a little reptitive characters and environments were great and imaginative even the digging mini games I had no problems with sure they werent strong but are easily cleared. I have only played the PS2 version though, I think I was probably one of seven who bought it on release.

Anyway its easily one of my favourite games on PS2 its just so fun to play the only part I had difficulty with was defeating the last stonewall to get in that optional area, in the end I just recorded the weakpoints on my phone and played it back to defeat him.

Oh as others have said this is not a short game it opens up massively which can limit the number of playthroughs (ive only finished it twice) but thats not really a mark against it there is very few 40+ hour games I play more than once.

If you're a fan of Zelda you'll certainly be a fan of Okami. Okami bears more than a passing resemblance to the Zelda series, and that's why it's so good. It looks and feels so familiar yet somehow refreshing.

EDIT: I both agree and disagree with the whole, "It did everything Zelda did, but better." mentality. While I prefer Okami nowadays simply because it at least looks new, it's really just the same old Zelda game Nintendo has been feeding us since Ocarina Of Time.

Okami is the only game that can be compared to Zelda games. other games are either completely different, or so much worse that they can't be compared.
It's perfect in every aspect.

And when I read when people complain about the controls, I wonder if we played the same game because I've finished the game 3 times and I don't think I had problems with the controls after the first 5 minutes of getting used to it.

The art, music, characters... great and lovely.
my brother got annoyed by the way the character talk, but I found it so funny and cute. <3

And for people complaining about the Wii combat, one tip.
If you wave the Wiimote to fast, it won't work. You have to try to use it according to the animation to make combos. Else you will attack once and have to wait a bit to be able to attack the next time. But if you move the wiimote only the moment when the attack finishes, Amaterasu will go into combo mode and be able to attack faster.

Also, why da fuk are you asking on the forum instead of playing the game?
You're doing it wrong, so wrong on so many different level.
Turn of your PC and go play the game. Come back when you've finished it and say thank you to all the people who said to play it.

I'm sorry!

I didn't pick it up when it was first released, and it will be forever something I hate about myself!
