I never played a DS series game in my life. Heard they were brutal, never got interested.

Then I remembered Destiny's release date and I realized I needed something to pour the next six months of my life into.

So, is DS 2 really okay for newcomers to just come in and jump in on alone?

Provided you realize that trial and error, death and exploration leading to death are part of the experience. You're going to die, you're going to lose your currency, invaders will murder you.

Honestly it's a LOT more fun than I'm making it sound, I'm loving it thus far. But it's definately a game designed for a specific niche audience and might not be for everyone.

The only connection that DS2 has to DS1 is a few references in item descriptions and stuff.

You could start the series at DS2 and not really miss anything.
