Hiya

I'm trying to ID an old short animation I saw several times when I was a kid. I need to know the maker and the writer/director.

I figure there's bound to be someone out there who knows it. ;)

I'm not sure when it was made, but it was a color short, probably made c. 1935+ but before 1939. It may have been a Disney; at any rate it would have been one of the shorts that typically got shown just before the main movie feature.

Basic plot: cheerful Disney-esque animals are decorating their village for Christmas. One of them asks his grandfather what Man is, or was, since there are no more of them. [the lead-in is something about the carol, with the line 'goodwill to all men'] Grandfather goes into an involved tale of how Man destroyed himself fighting wars (meat-eater versus vegetarian was the last great conflict) and now is no more. The last shot shows that the village is made out of bits of abandoned war machinery.

Well, any takers? Who recognizes it?

Wasnt around then but I wish I could see it. Sounds strangely heavy for an opening cartoon.

I've seen that one! It's called 'Peace on Earth,' I think. Found it on a link at tvtropes. Pretty dark for a cartoon, but then again I think it was made when WWII was starting, so it was dark times.
