Funny thing. I've been trying to catch up on certain That Guy With the Glasses series (having been fully caught up on Nostalgia Critic/Chick, Bum Reviews, Linkara, Read Right to Left, and a few others). Specifically, I've been catching up on <url=http://www.thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/thatguywiththeglasses/ask-thatguy>Ask That Guy With the Glasses, up to Episode 30...which states that that was Linkara's first introduction to doing video reviews.

A little checking revealed that, yes, he's only been doing the vid reviews for TGWTG since the beginning of this year. That was...rather more recent than I expected.

I've come to the conclusion that I still don't know how internet time moves. Anyone else seen anything (series, webcomic, whathaveyou) that you later found to be either much older or much newer than you expected?

The internet has a habit of changing rather fast and is quite quick to forget things.

It's a sad truth, but one day even Zero Punctuation might be forgotten. Haruhi help this forum when/if it does though.

The Escapist is only four years old and look how big it is by comparison. Same as Facebook, a couple of years ago you'd heard of it a little bit and now everyone I know has a page. And twitter, that exploded into popularity almost overnight. Things just move very quickly once people get a hold of them.

The internet move at the same speed as pop culture. This means that it occasionally breaks the sound barrier on eventful months and slows to a snails pace when nothing happens. Mostly anything older then a few weeks is ancient though.

I don't know if it's the same thing, but when I click "Related News" links on news websites (including The Escapist). I'll read an interesting and recent article, and check the Related News... OMG! Sony is releasing a *new* PS2? Clicking the link reveals that this happened nearly two years ago. At least on Escapist it's generally something relatively trivial. I remember looking through news reports and being shocked by dated Mumbai bombing headlines. I couldn't believe it had happened again so soon and in such a similar fashion.

Our goddess.

The big twist in the series is that the title character, an eccentric and outgoing high school girl, is a nascent god-being who unknowingly warps and creates reality as she sees fit. Being an otherwise normal girl, this tends to be a far greater danger when she's bored or jealous.

Some of us on the internet and outside have made this into a mock religion.

The internet is such a fickle beast, it's hard to keep track of things. Ideas come and go from various timezones from various ISP's, some will leave your mind-blown and others with your face in your palm. By proxy, internet fame is just as fickle thanks to the diversity of people that use it, as such the general rule of thumb is that anything older than a week, is ancient news.

If it has it's own Youtube video, then it's clearly been circulating for a while on the interbutts.

Well, I'm not really talking about memes and the like. Hell, the thing I'm surprised is so recent is only ten months old.

Internet moves with the speed of a plot. Sometimes,it really slows down when absolutely nothing remarkable happens. But most of the time, thanks to all the various information being pumped out in real-time by millions of users,it moves really fucking fast.

Basically, any news older than 3 days is already outdated news.

I find that if I'm reading something (like a webcomic) and realize its more then a year old, that I feel as if I'm wasting my time...I don't know why.

That does seem kind of odd. I'd figure that a webcomic that has run at least a year has a better the chance that it will actually be good.

Let me correct myself. Any news older than three days is already outdated news.

Besides,i have little to no intrest in these "abridged series",and i'm familiar with other stuff you mentioned.

Ah. Yeah, I don't especially care about the whole news thing, either. I was curious about strangely recent or strangely long-running series and the like.

I understood! Yay me!

I think it takes a while to get old on the internet, as long as people still remember it, even if it's been deleted, it'll live on. Like me

How about Dr. McNinja? Explosm.net? Smbc-comics.com?

Those have been around for years and are still growing strong. When I first started reading Dr. McNinja he ready had about 8 complete books done.

I got over Homestarrunner in Middle School. Back when Strongbad had a terribad computer to say the least.
It's still older than three days and going strong. It counts.
