I got Fallout 3 not too long ago for my 360 when it came out, and I really did enjoy the game for what it was. At this point, I had no previous experience with the original, but had wasted way too much time playing oblivion. The similarities between those two have been said a million times and are quite obvious. I heard a lot of people complaining that this caused the game to be nothing like the original games, so I went and got Fallout 2. I was excited at first to see where it all started (sort of) but on getting out of the first village I realized it was pretty difficult to get much of anything accomplished and the turn based combat got really old and boring when you need action points to fucking WALK up to the enemy and wait for them to finish wailing on your ass until you could get your first strike it. Perhaps I am too spoiled by modern games being less difficult, but it became a real pain in the ass. The plot sort of had me running all over the place, not really sure what was going on or what to do. It became such a pointless waste of time I just said fuck it and stopped playing. Fallout 3 is similar in that respect but it's not as extreme, I still had a general idea of what I had to do to progress slightly in the storyline. The people in Fallout 2 however, were more interesting and you could murder all the children you wanted, which was a nice stress reliever. Fallout 2 had more to do but was very difficult and seemed to me to take too long. Fallout 3 could have been such a better game though, and I now see why people don't really consider it a sequel. What can you really expect from Bethesda, though?

Well, I don't think fallout 3 is a bad game, just kind of shallow. I mean in comparison with the amount of quests in Fallout 2, Fallout 3 has barely any. If your lucky you can find maybe one to two quests per town in Fallout 3. And I'm sorry that you find the turn based combat boring, but I thought it made the game more tactical, and less of a shooty shooty killfest.

I have no idea what you mean by that. Do you have something against paragraps? It's just a similar style game.

I didn't consider it boring, it just got really frustrating after a while

What about proper grammar?

Yes, and at higher levels in either games you were still a pretty god-like figure with your weapon of choice. I loved the tactical approach provided by the TBS.

I will say that the later RPGs, namely Fallout 3 and Oblivion, are much more shallow than their respective predecessors. I can't help but wander what FO: Van Buren may have been like.

You know, I was wondering: What you people didn't like in Fallout 3?
I think it was a great game, really enjoyed it.
The environment was great, the combats and the VATS was good also, the soundtrack was genius.

So yeah, you need patience to play it, but it's RPG game after all.
But beside that?

Well don't get me wrong, I did like Fallout 3, it was fun. It just felt sort of stale and the plot didn't exactly thrill me. It felt too short and thrown together. The dlc should have just been included in the game, and it would have been considered better, I think. That was one of my main problems

I went into fallout 3 with an optimistic mind set after being a massive fan of the originals and oblivion (loloblivionwithgunsamiright?) Whilst the engine similarity made it feel failure it also felt very lacking to me, The graphics where in the right direction but due to modern gaming i miss colour and variety. The combat was okish i guess but everything i felt was rather dull, i eventually quit after blowing up the first town due to that one really annoying chick lived.

Most will probably say i didn't give the game enoth chance but i felt i did, a good game sucks you in from the very beginning and leaves you with withdrawal symptoms when you finish much like oblivion did for me. The game isn't necessarily bad but i personally didn't like it and prefered the originals plus i feel Bethesda needs a new engine personally

I love Fallout 3. It has a lot of missions but I do agree that the DLC's should come with the final game and not as DLC's.

I never did play the first one but the second one was good, it just had some things that really bothered me. Yeah going into the originals with a 3 mindset might throw you off, its an entirely different feel. And you can kill children.

Apples and Oranges, mah boi. Fallout 1 and 2 use systems that are completely different from the 3rd.

Depends if you like long narratives and the dark aesthetic of the post-apocalyptic world...in that case, I would give the first two games a shot. I liked them more than F3, personally.

I'm a big fan of the first two Fallout games, I played them back in the late 90s, and I replayed them before playing Fallout 3.

Fallout 3 is really Oblivion with guns, but thats not necessarily a bad thing, it kind of depends on how much you like Oblivion I guess. I have to say I was disappointed with both Oblivion and Fallout 3.

To put things in context, I much prefer the likes of Ultima, Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter nights etc., which are quite different as RPGs to the recent games produced by Bethesda.

I have higher hopes for Dragon Age.

Yeah VB looked like a pretty cool game. I just miss not being able to marry someone and then either sell them into slavery or salvage their brain.

True, but nothing makes me nostalgic like being beat down by some geckos.

I love all the Fallout games equally - 1 and 2 are just really different from 3, is all. It just depends on what you'd rather play - turn-based 2D or semi-turn-based 3D. They're all great games though.

(I never did play Oblivion, so I'm not sure if I would have felt differently about Fallout 3 if I had...)
