So I had a thought today after watching a comedic music video about some group of 18-20 years olds having to visit a retirement home and it got me thinking

People who play games now are going to have the best retirements. I think so anyway.

I imagine I'll be sitting in comfy chair, playing whatever it is in the Elder Scrolls franchise has brought out. I imagine there will be some problems concerning health troubles and dulled reaction times but still, I look forward to it.

So forum, what do you think your retirement years will be like?

Even better, you can just upload yourself to your favorite video game franchise. To hell with your frail body!

Unless this happens, in which case I will log into Second Life, and never ever log out.

I hope that if suffer from Alzheimer, I can enjoy all those videogame jewels I played a twenty years ago again, every Day! Oh that would be fantastic.
Other than that, I hope I'm wealthy enough to afford decent hardware and still have some money to pay for some IT-Nerd so that I can cheat Online and pawn all those obnoxious little F*ckers behaving like idiots with team-speak.

I just hope that I don't develop severe arthritis. See, I won't give up gaming even if that DOES happen, so I'll be in a lot of pain...

On the bright side I think a lot of us won't have to worry about Alzheimer's, as I've heard that keeping your brain active can help prevent it, and a great many games (FPS notwithstanding) -do- involve some thinking.

Lol. This just reminds me of one of the assistant managers where I work. She's nearly 60 and has a Wii; her favorite thing to do after she gets home from work is put a beer in one hand and the Wii remote in the other and play around with whatever game she happens to have at the time. Probably one of the coolest old ladies I know :)

now that I've actuallt read the thread, I want to thank you for making old age look so much less depressing, thank you.

I hate to be "that guy", but IMO that makes you worse than them. They may be annoying, but at least I'm still able to play. People like you break the game, and are the sole reason I don't play any online multiplayer anymore.

OT: I'm hoping by that state they've invented immortality :D

I think when I get old I won't be able to understand modern gaming because it evolved too much and got much more complex. Or at least watching my dad try to play current games gives me that feeling.

Maybe, maybe not. The older generation has trouble with computer tech because the move into interactive entertainment/content is such a radical paradigm shift from everything that came before that they have trouble wrapping their heads around it. While a new shift of such magnitude isn't impossible and will likely eventually occur, nothing guarantees that it will come in our lifetimes (assuming we don't all get immortal or whatever) and all we might end up with in our old age is slightly more sophisticated versions of what we have today.

Don't you worry! People like ME don't play multiplayer in the first place, because of these annoying twats I mentioned above. If I play multiplayer I play with friends I personally know and I don't cheat, because I don't need that and that's not what I intend to do with friends anyway.
So actually yes, you are "that guy" and no I'm not worse than them. :p

The question is will half the retirement home being screaming. Fuck!, Fag!, Owned, etc and so forth as we all play? I doubt any schools would volunteer their students for assisting the old folks with all the profanity in the halls.

Then again, we could use them to our advantage.
"Yea this is Danny, and him and I are so going to kick your ass in MW6."

Unfortunately, European Union is in the middle of crisis, we have problems with our closest neighbours and on top of that, our government plans to change most of our citizens into beggars, so i'm not sure about my retirement. :|

As for games : neural interface. That's what i count on ! If not - then maybe Augmented Reality games. Yay !

Just you wait.

By the time we're all decrepit and old, all of the latest games will be played using movement.

I'd hate it...I'm already peeved at some of the newer games. I'd probably sit on the lawn and shout: "I PLAYED GAMES ON DOS! DOS!! Do you know what that is, you young whippersnappers!! I played games when you weren't even a twinkle in your mother's eye! I'll pwn you sooo baaaad!"

...And then be given happy pills.

I know Alzheimer's is pretty bad. But I hope I'm wealthy enough to afford me some conventiently cheap (probably asian) and hopefully goodlooking and kind hearted nurse who is helpful enough to help me finding my game.

Old people do play video games. This is why WOW's numbers tipped when the game got "hard" again. By making the game go back to a state of requiring split second reaction times in super long instances with no bathroom breaks, that drove them off. Seriously I know some people who just use it for the fishing. We used to carry this shaman who DPS'ed with a staff just because he brought a million fish feasts and was the nicest guy ever. During the midnight release of cata some guy cornered me to tell me about how he cornered the market on light leather and lowbie fish. Years this guy played, hardly had motivation to level past 20.

Maybe pet battles with entice more people.
