a few days ago i was sitting in a bus. when the bus got to the second stop a lot of people got on. i intended to give my seat to a woman with two kids, but instead an old man swooped in and took it. i'm really just wondering if he was wrong or if i was wrong for being annoyed.

It's public transport there are like 5 seats you can't use, 1 for bus driver and the 4 or so for disableds and oldies.

Meh, I give up my seat for old/disabled people anyway, so it wouldn't make a difference who sits where.

I never give up my seat for anyone. When i get on the bus I'm usually cold, tired and kranky and those people are gonna be dead soon anyway and generally I dont give a rats ass about anyone except myself and my girlfriend. The rest of the world can go kill itself for all I care :p

Lettem fall and break a hip, that'll teach em the lesson of why they should've made better choice sin life, made a decent volume of money and been able to have a Driver (i'd have said the fancier version beginning with C but no clue how to spell it) to drive them about

Either way, someone who appreciated the seat more than you - spry youngster that you are - got it. Are you sure the old man knew who you were offering the seat to? Perhaps he assumed it was meant for him. And this woman - pregnant or no? If not, I'd say that though she still would appreciate the seat more than you, she and her kids should have found standing an easier burden than the old'un.

Chauffeur.
Assuming you're not joking, I think I'll now enjoy imagining your arthritic old age. Have fun standing on the bus (the way oil prices are going, it'll be buses for you).

Its an odd situation I mean you were in the right to give your seat to the mom with 2 kids and you meant well but when someone sees you trying to do something nice and take advantage that's just wrong. I don't care how old they are they should know better like my parents always told me.

I find that the elderly are amongst the worst culprits for bad manners in my area. They push in front when in stores and queues for the bus and feel free to voice their opinions on peoples' dress and make up and such. Really gets on my nerves.

It reminds me of a time I was on the bus, I was dozing in my seat when an elderly woman said something to get my attention, she told me I should have given up my seat for the old woman who got on.

I looked across from me and there was an empty seat right at the front and I told her that. She then told me I should have offered up my seat anyway and that good manners cost nothing. I then said yeah thanks for that to put an end to the conversation.

The old woman in question who I was supposed to give up my seat to had gone and sat at the back of the bus before this irritating conversation started.
