I've just discovered I'd forgotten about a small bank account, and now have possession of about a hundred pounds I didn't know I have, which I intend to make vanish. While wondering about the ways in which to make it go furthest, I remembered "I've seen GameCubes going for almost nothing" and was wondering if the Escapist advises buying a GameCube, and if so, what to buy for it...

So yeah, gimme advice, recommendations, whatever you got (except a flame war)

Notes: I don't own a Wii, and don't plan to buy one

If you already have a Wii you don't need to by a GameCube since it's compatible with those discs. However i do recommend the following titles

Luigi's Mansion
Viewtiful Joe's 1 and 2
SSB Melee
Pikmin
Eternal Darkness
Metroid Prime
Zelda Wind Waker
Zelda Master Collection.

Gamecube had some fun games. If it's in your price range, and offers games you like, then go for it (personally, I'd keep saving for a Wii).

As far as games go, I'd recommend:

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
Metroid Prime
Pikmin
Mario Kart: Double Dash
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Mario Strikers
Battalion Wars
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Viewtiful Joe

If you haven't got an XBox/PS2, I'd also recommend Beyond Good & Evil, and the first Prince of Persia game.

Also, Animal Crossing is a guilty pleasure.

I don't have a Wii, I'm mainly into Xbox and hand-held, and I'd rather buy a cheap Cube than a Wii

Country
Ireland
Super Mario Sunshine(gets a lot of flak but it's still a quality mario game)
Metroid Prime 1&2(or if you own a Wii get Metroid Prime Trilogy)
Pikmin 1&2
Eternal Darkness
F-Zero GX
Luigi's Mansion
Star Wars:Rogue Leader
Star Wars:Rebel Strike
Soulcalibur 2
Super Smash Bros Melee
Mario Kart:Double Dash

There's more but that's all I can think of off the top of my head

Buy a Gamecube second hand on the cheap in stores such as CEX as they always has a few in stock for around about twenty quid. Decent games for the gamecube however are a little harder to come by than the consoles themselves and if you buy them (even second hand) be prepared to pay more for them.

Here's ten choice games from me to you.

Eternal Darkness
Paper Mario The thousand year door
Metal gear solid twin snakes
Super smash bros melee
Baten kaitos
Metroid Prime
Legend of zelda: wind waker
Luigi's Mansion
Pikmin 2
Resident evil Remake

You can't go wrong with any of those.
