I was brought up on old music, so I really got into The Carpenters, Maurice Williams and The Zodiacs, The Shirelles, Abba, etc.
So any of their songs, really.

I'm really suprised that no one has posted this yet.

I'm with you on that, my friend.

Also in Fallout 3, I listened to that 1 jazz song, I forgot what it was called, but I also heard it watching the film called 'The Boy In The Striped Pajamas', I'm not joking.

Early sixties count? For my Japanese class we had to learn how to sing it, and I suppose it just sort of endeared itself with me.

Hank Williams

edit: and this

i could list all sorts of songs from the 50s and 60s, but I figured the 40s don't get their fair shout. Also Muddy waters, that guy was great.

2nd edit:- and Woody guthrie

Unfortunately it's not quite in your bracket, but still. This one's from 1967:

I can't really explain why, but i always considered this song to be immensely sad. Something to be played at a funeral. Even though it's not really meant for that.

I was pretty much brought up on music from the 50s, 60s and 70s and so I cant possibly list all the songs I like from those decades, so heres something older, and a bit different :D

The recording is not old, but the song itself dates from the American Civil war.

I dont neccessarily agree with the message of the song, I just like the way it sounds. I first heard it on The Assassination of Jesse James. Took me ages to find out what it was.

For something way older:
No I'm not religious but still,it must be my Scottish heritage that makes me find this appealing.
