That WAS funny, however unless he's a really good actor with good voice control, I don't think he'd work as Luke Cage, he sounds to refined. That might just be the nature of the commercial though.
If I remember Luke Cage is supposed to be the quintessential "poor guy from the 'hood" who wound up being sent up the river unfairly, and developed his super powers being experimented on in prison. He used them to escape, and clear his name, before deciding to basically become a super powered mercenary a "hero for hire" sort of like some of Spider-Man's ambitions at certain times (though Spidy never actually does it). A big part of the gimmick being is that Cage winds up acting like a tough guy, just out for the money, but being a good person ultimatly winds up giving up the money, or never asking the victim he winds up helping for the reward in the end. Eventually he teams up with Danny Rand or "Iron Fist" who ironically doesn't need money and they fight crime together.
I might be remembering some of that wrong, but basically while I understand the character has changed with the times (ie no more 70s and 80s jive) he shouldn't sound that upper class. I mean being streetwise is part of his whole thing, he's from a bad neighborhood, and an ex-prison inmate who spent years in the lockup. You need a tough guy/brawler type with a voice that sounds that way to be Luke Cage. He's not dumb (far from it) but shouldn't sound like he's well educated, or from a good neighborhood.
Ironically hearing this guy's voice I think he would make a decent voice for say "The Beast" talking that way (as he's very refined and educated), or maybe "The Black Panther" who is highly educated royalty.
Funny, but when I heard that it just doesn't scream "this is what Luke Cage sounds like".
But then again the way they voice Deadpool is usually pretty bad too, and somehow they pull it off. In the comics his voice is described as being sort of like gravel and gasoline if I remember, yet they usually pick a somewhat playful, sarcastically lilted voice which sounds like it should be making those jokes... which to me sort of defeats the purpose of the intended clash. His delivery in the comics is funnier when I think about what he's supposed to sound like in saying some of these things.
