A Hermit's Cave
Yes, guess what this thread's going to be about, Brits & Commonwealthers...

The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge have their so idiotically overhyped kid at last... [http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23413944]

Now let us share just how little we care, except here's another member of the royal family in whom we must decide whether the revenue from various estates dredged up from gods only know where and tourism will outweigh the fact that we'll be paying for their upkeep.

I am, nominally, rather indifferent to the British Royal family, and don't mind their antics, so long as they keep the lid on it for the most part. But today, fucking hell, the media just wouldn't shut the fuck up about it and almost went into literal meltdown at about half-four. Two humans who happen to be wealthier than average (admittedly, a lot wealthier) had a son. Good health to the kid and hope he has a sensible name, hope the mother's doing OK and the crazy uncle wasn't streaking at the time. Surely that's all the media needs to establish, right?!

The BBC News channel had almost half-hourly updates since 7 am! Y'know, if anything made me lose respect for the BBC, this was almost it... thank god they still do decent stuff like News Quiz...

Anyway... /rant

People were dying in China, but that pales in comparison to a woman performing a biological imperative that every other female on the damn planet can do.

Earthquakes? The fuck is an earthquake?

Ill never understand why so many Americans are fascinated with the royal family, considering we went to war against them to form our country.

Yeah, I couldn't really care less about the kid, although it has been fun thinking up names.

When the gender wasn't known I had said "Peach", but now that everyone knows it's a boy, I'm hoping for either "Of Persia", "Fresh Prince" or Joffrey. That last one is currently 500/1 at the bookies by the way.

Twice, no less... (a lot of Americans consider the War of 1812 to be the 'second war of Independence' AFAIK...)

Eh... the name's going to be disappointingly banal, any money... :/ There'll be Edward Charles Francis George Henry in some form or other in there somewhere...

Still, Theodred?

Didn't you know that Kate Middleton is the only woman in the whole wide world who has had a baby?

I'm meh about the royals. They seem nice enough but I'm sick of hearing about them. If they still had the power they used to have I'd understand, but they don't.
Hopefully they shut up about it tomorrow. I hope they pick the chavviest and crappiest name too :p

Wait, what's-her-name got pregnatized by the royal thing?
Must have missed that one...

Well congratulations to the two of them for managing to fuck.
Managing to follow your primal desires and bump uglies really isn't something I consider worty of praise. Nor is managing to birth the lil' royal sucker.

I've been basically been avoiding all news sites since I discovered the entire bbc front page was dedicated to the birth. Good for the parents I guess but I don't care in the slightest about anything involving the royal family.

Yeah I don't really cared about the royal baby either. It did annoyed me that the news shown the whole lived thing nonstop in the morning while I rather watched other eventful news that was going on earlier today.
To me the royal baby is just any other couple ready to give birth and their status doesn't mean anything to me.

I remember watching 10 O'Clock Live once and they started off by announcing that Charlie Brooker had just had a baby; the audience applauded to which he quipped 'you do realise you're just applauding biology? I had a shit this morning too, are you going to clap for that?' And they did. :3 So yeah, that pretty much sums up my attitude to this news; couldn't give a toss about the royal family, hell I even slept through the wedding having gotten plastered the night previous which I think was pretty much the only way you could avoid the nauseating amount of covering surrounding that thing. On a tenuously related note, I heard that Kanye West recently named his son North. North. North West. His name is North fucking West! I was literally in a fit of laughter when I first heard that.

I can't say what is the worst with royal events. The amount of ridiculous media-hogging over a banal event or the amount of bitching that bubbles up about it. The only equivolent I can think of is when some drug-addled hasbeen of sorts inevitably dies. One third of the world is in mourning, another third is whining about that and the third is trying to breathe life in every nasty rumour they can find now that the corpse can't defend itself.

Thankfully, everyone gets on with their lives soon enough. No annoyance lasts forever.

I switched on the news this morning to see if any updates had happened regarding Syria, Nelson Mandela's health, the earthquake in Christchurch NZ, the women's rights movement in India or other current happenings. What I got instead on EVERY FUCKING NEWS CHANNEL was extensive coverage of the royal baby - Fox, CNBC, BBC, RT, you name it. It just went on and on.

I already woke up badly, talk about starting off the day with a fucking headache that gets 10x worse when you turn on the TV.

From what I've heard, the British people THEMSELVES actually don't give two shits about the royal family or their happenings. The general consensus also seemed to indicate that...by far the overwhelming majority of people who were queuing up for the royal wedding and this royal baby are tourists, primarily made up of Americans.

Americans are absolutely fascinated by the royal family for some utterly bizarre reason and so is the American media. I feel really bad for that poor baby who is going to grow up with camera crews stalking him 24/7 and with so many expectations on his head.

I can't say I'm not annoyed.
As the messiah, my birth was met with celebration from my family and that's it. Some inbred womb-lottery winner gets all this press coverage?
To be fair; nobody ever accused the media of being sane.

To be fair there's probably never even a millisecond of any day where people aren't dying in China. They got a lot of people :D

OT: I was pleased to hear that our future king was born healthy. That is all.
