Check out the first Mafia if you don't mind graphics that are a bit old; although there might be mods out there that make them better. The game has/had a huge modding community.

Also, I heard Godfather 2 is actually ok. Saint's Row 2 is fine, but don't get it if you're playing PC and don't have a gamepad.

I was going to say in this very post that Mafia II most likely won't have the same support, since 2K said they wouldn't support it or something. But then I checked Mafia Scene, the Mafia modding website [http://mafiascene.com/] and they seem to have a few mods available for it.

It's great if you dont mind challenging games with out-dated graphics. Get past the GFX though and it's a brilliant experiance. Short of that and the other games that have been mentioned I'm not too sure.

The Assassins Guild and Theives Guild quests in Oblivion perhaps? Clutching at straws here...

already played it, but i dont think of gta as organized crime. more like bullet sponge attacks new york

i havent played mafia 2, i just said that i put a bid on ebay for it.

and while i enjoyed the assassins and thieves guild in oblivion, now that i got it on my computer any feat of arms or stealth is now way too easy for my roided out indestructible superhuman with magical vanishing skills and the ability to make any female being in the game have honking pornstar tits. modding

Mafia Wars on Facebook? I think one of the Godfather games had some "strategy".

For proper organized crime, try GTA 4, or the aforementioned Godfather. I don't think the latter was very good, though.

The Realism of everything isn't great, but it is among the greatest stories of oranized crime I have seen in a video game, and it's really fucking fun anyway.

greatest story? bull freaking shit. mafia II has the best story. gta iv was just a russian immigrant ***** fest.

Dude, GTA IV was a powerhouse in terms of portraying the modern "crime is a bullshit last resort for desperate people" angle. If you let it suck you in it's a touching tale of the futility of redemption and vengeance. It's got excellent satirical humor, blisteringly good graphics, solid controls, an immersive world, and a smart story of betrayal and loss.

Mafia II is a pale imitation. A solid little imitation, sure, but it misses the point. At least it did to me.
