So today I got a new laptop which has Beats Audio installed speakers and drivers installed. So far I've only had the chance to try it out with my earphones and not my slightly-better-quality headphones, but I've already found a few gripes with the audio and the way the software affects music etc.
So yeah, first thoughts after a couple hours messing around:
1. The big thing that bugs me is the aggressive amount of adjustment that happens on-the-fly. The treble-bass balance seems to change pretty drastically and the volume gets levelled a lot in songs where there's meant to be volume diversity. What makes it really noticeable is that there's a slight lag in the adjustment: in songs with big climactic moments (e.g. http://youtu.be/Dmc8AhGskLs?t=25s) the change takes a moment to process so you get this change that happens a moment too late and takes too long compared to the change in the song.
2. While you can disable "Beats Audio" (whatever that setting does isn't explained very well, but it seems to lower the on-the-fly), it takes a lot of messing with the equaliser to get back to a balanced sound. Funnily enough, the absolute default settings (everything on 50) are a little lacking in bass. I'd say more but I'm still trying to hit a good balance. So far I haven't found one with the kind of space and warmth I'm used to and everything seems tinny. I could chalk it up to sub-standard earphones or me sucking at using equalisers but these things are slightly bass-heavy, so if anything it should make it easier to hit that warm, spaced bass feeling.
