Will the Vita have region-free games? That's a major selling point for me, and one of the main reasons I haven't picked up a 3DS. To get most of the games I want, I would have import that console from the US, which is costly and just generally annoying (especially for a handheld).

Anyway, it comes down to what games they get. We know the Vita will have support from some interesting companies. Remains to be seen how the 3DS will fare, what with sales being surprisingly slow.
The Vita will be region-free.

There are a few more now.

Grasshopper, Falcom, NIS, Epic, tri-Ace, QE, From Software [small](while most of their non-RPG fare has been lacklustre, their RPGs are awesome)[/small].

You've also got Keiichiro Toyama working on Gravity Daze, and Vanillaware is making a game too.

People always say the PSP failed because of horrible advertising campaigns, but I don't really know whether that's true.

The thing is, the 3DS has already been found to not live up to the hype. 3D is really just a gimmick so all it does is upgrade graphics.

The Vita however not only upgrades graphics even more, but also adds dual analog sticks and a better touch screen than the 3DS.

In the end it all comes down to the games though. Considering Pokemon is the single biggest portable Nintendo title, I'm sure 3DS sales will spike once a new game comes out.

Who cares about who's death it's going to be, it's just going to bring healthy competition and I don't care as long as both bring awesome games. I however won't be getting a 3ds, I'm just not into the whole 3D gimmick thing..... it gives me a headache..... seriously.

PSV all the way. I have both systems, PSP games are of far better quality. With the 3DS you get 3D and a graphics boost. With the PSV you get Two analog sticks, and far better graphics. With the PSV getting touchscreen and motion control, I wouldn't be surprised if iPhone, iPad games were ported to it as well. The PSV has more options of games availble as well. Two analog sticks, two touchscreens. Traditional shooters will work better on it.

I find the Vita to be really, really boring. There's NOTHING about it that the 3DS doesn't already have except for dual analogs. Plus I just find that the 3DS has more interesting games over the horizon, the greatest of which are directly from Nintendo with stuff like Kid Icarus, Mario Kart, and Mario 3D. The Vita just doesn't make it seem like Sony learned ANYTHING about portable gaming from their previous attempt.

Well, the DS was first to the part, the 3DS is first to the party, and, well, Nintendo has been the established king of handhelds since the original Game Boy, you don't just topple such an idea overnight, especially not when you're reusing several ideas from your competitor. It's the same problem with the Move, they're trying to get an audience that Nintendo already has won quite solidly.
I dont think that's fair. The PSV is being marketed at the "gamer" audience, that's why the Uncharted game has been demoed the most, where as the DS was aimed at alot more casual players, which I assume will be the 3DS's focus as well, aside from nostalgic Nintendo fanboys gagging for N64 games they already own(ed) to be sold to them at full retail price again.

I have no interest in the PS Vita right now. It's really going to be all about the games. Plus in a few months time, the 3DS is going to be even cheaper, so I'm going to have one more reason to get it (once there is a better games lineup). Most of the games they announced in that E3, I wanted. If the 3DS is going to end up like the DS, I'm all for it.

So far I've seen mostly ports on the Rivita. I don't care about those. But time will tell if they get more titles I want. I don't think many people will opt for the Wi-Fi version of it though?

Once i saw the Vita i sortof regretted picking up my 3DS at launch, seeing as there still have been no games worth buying it specifically for.

But after the announcing of the huge wave of first party Nintendo games coming later this year, i'm glad i got one.

Maybe if the 3DS was something other than a string of remakes I might give it a look. Sadly that is not the case. On the flip side the PSV really isn't doing much for me right here and now either. So I guess I will stick with my DS Lite and shortly my Xperia Play when my upgrade comes up at the end of July.

Maybe when the 3DS has a fraction of a fraction of the games that the DS has that are worth playing then it will be worth possibly upgrading. I doubt that will be any time soon. As long as the focus is remaking decade old games with a shitty layer of 3D slapped on I will keep far far away. And I don't consider remaking Mario Kart or Smash Bros for the 48575th time each original content.

Sadly for the PSV the Xperia Play is much better suited to my needs. For starters it's on the Verizon network (which is who my cell is through). Secondly it has the entire Android library at it's disposal including emulators and other actual games that are better suited for on the go play. Finally the biggest problem I have with the PSV is that outside of the hardware it's self there isn't much about it I'm impressed with.

Never had a handheld console, it always seemed like a waste of money to me.
Not that I haven't played on a handheld before - my brother has a PSP, my sister has a DS and way back when I had quite a few friends who had a GameBoy/GameBoy Color/GameBoy Advance.

However, I must admit the PSV looks mighty nice. It's about time they put in two analog sticks! Hopefully, platform games won't have as many camera issues anymore and shooters will play as they should. On the other hand, the whole touch screen thing (and rear touch pad) seems kind of forced and I'm just gonna dispatch it as another gimmick.

But then again, I saw the DS as a gimmick in and of itself - from the touch screen to the ridiculous double screens. And now, with the 3DS, we got 3D, yet ANOTHER gimmick! Hooray!

So yeah, big chance I'm gonna buy neither, but I'd choose the PSV over the 3DS any day.

Also, in the end, it's the software on the consoles that really matter - and in my humble opinion, PSV has got the better deal. Sure, both Nintendo and Sony will go all out to bring their biggest franchises to the tiny screen, but at least Sony's re-hash factor isn't as terrible (yet) as Nintendo's. Seriously, if you start counting from the GameBoy Advance, just how many first party remakes did Nintendo pour onto its handhelds?! You make me choose between Dragon's Crown or ANOTHER Ocarina of Time re-release, well then I know what to choose.

Oh wow.
Didn't see something so smart and customer friendly coming from sony.
That's an actual reason to get that thing over a 3ds.
Unless they mess that up with some other stupid thing like secret constant phoning home and position tracking or whatever new jazz handhelds will be plagued with nowadays.
Both the PSP and the PS3 have region-free games. Nintendo were the first to use regional lockout in the video game industry (AFAIK), and are now even using it on their handhelds.

Not entirely out of the blue.

question whats the point of shutting off the 3D. Its ONLY SELLING POINT. May aswell get a regular DS then, with longer battery life.

Or as im going to, get the vita with its sexy graphics.
Well there's also the games that will be coming out for it, the improved graphics over the DS (though I admit the Vita is better in that regard overall), the backwards compatibility with the rest of the DS library and DSiWare games so you can still buy those games or use your old ones, the different controls, the improved online service, and the games available on the E-Shop. But I guess those don't count.

I'm not saying the Vita is bad, but there is more to the 3DS besides the 3D. There's a variety of reasons as to WHY nobody sees past it. Nintendo's near non-existent marketing of it, the general (And well-deserved) stigma of 3D, the "hardcore" game audience's eagerness to bash on Nintendo every chance they get, the terrible launch line-up and so on...

All of this fighting and stuff just makes it better for us.

Sony guy: Aaah! We're down in sales! What do we do!?
Sony guy 2: Make it awesomer!
Nintendo guy: Oh no! Sony is making their system awesomer! Release some new games!
Sony guy: *GASP* They're releasing new games what do we do!? etc...

And it shall continue like that. Or at least I hope it does.
