Okay, I've tried to get some help from you guys before.

Fat load of good that did.

But I'm willing to try again and hopefully you guys can help me out. I know that there are plenty of questions about which game should I buy and what platform should I get the game for and crap like that, but this one is different...okay, no it's pretty much the same question anyway but I still want your help.

So I want your help on buying a PSP.

First of all, I will eventually get a PSP no question.
Secondly, I already have a DS so don't tell me to get a DS and don't offer me any titles for the DS as the last good game I've played for it was Elite Beat Agents (what the hell iNiS? WE DON'T WANT LIPS WE WANT EBA2!!)
Thridly, I don't want this to get into a debate over which is better.
Fourthy, don't tell me to get a DS I already have one.
Fifthly, I TOLD YOU I have a god damn DS read the full post!

So I just wanted to know if there's anything you guys can help me with like which bundles should I get, any precausions towards buying a PSP, where should I buy one, any games you'd recomend, ect... Any advice is welcome (except buying a DS).

I know some games I'd get like GoW:Chains of Olympus, Ratchet+Clank: Size matters, Patapon, Daxter, LoccoRocco, and other games and any other recomendations would be welcome.

I hope this gets past atleast 20 posts, the last one barely went past 10...

As a proud PSP owner I would be more than happy to answer what few questions you have presented, and what future questions you may have.

Alrightey first of all If your going to get a bundle I HIGHLY recommend the ice silver daxter bundle. You get a bigger bang for your buck with this one than you would with some of the other bundles we have gotten. Why you ask? well it comes with a sleek ice silver slim PSP which looks great, it comes with Daxter, a family guy UMD, AND a 1 gig mem stick just to get you started all for 200 bucks. Not a bad deal eh?

The other bundles..while cool do not come with a mem stick and if you dont wanna see darth vadar or Kratos on the back of your PSP your other best bet is a madden bundle with the cool blue PSP.

Where should you buy your PSP you ask? well if you got a Best Buy near you, go there. Bundles are the same price everywhere...well here they are. I recommend best buy mainly due to their 2 year replacement plan, which is better then the stock 1 year warranty you get the the PSP anyways. Trust me an extra 35 bucks will be worth it if something happens to your PSP and 2 year warranty is damn good.

Advice? well...GET A SCREEN PROTECTOR!! and wrist strap. I'm serious that thing scratches a little too easy sometimes so get yourself a good screen protector. I have a nice clear shell that encompasses my entire PSP so its a clear armor and screen protector all in one and am still able to play games. http://www.soho-utopia.com/techforus/pics/u_psp_slim_full_case_03.jpg

As for games...well I will post my current collection of games to give you an idea of some top notch PSP games. It's still growing but the current ones I have are:

-Wipeout Pulse (there is also wipeout pure but it doesnt have online play...still good)
-Crisis Core (great action adventure)
-Final Fantasy Tactics (amazing remake of the PS1 classic with beautiful CG cutscenes and revised script)
-God of War (Just kick ass, even if you can beat it in 5 hours..on normal)
-Field Commander (you like advanced wars? welcome to PSP's version)
-Star Wars Battlefront Renegade squadron (It essentially battlefront 1.5, just awesome online)
-Metal Slug Anthology (the classic arcade shmup on your PSP...well..7 games actually)
-Siphon Filter Dark Mirror/Logans Shadow (BEST SHOOTER on the PSP, solid controls, great story, awesome online game play)
-Armored Core (what you would expect from an AC game)
-Killzone Liberation (also great multiplayer online and just a great isometric shooter)
-Megman X (you like the old megaman X game? well now its been remastered)
-Warhammer 40k Squad Command (lead you squad into battle against the chaos with totally destructible environments, on the DS as well, great online, also includes gameshare)
-Valkyrie Profile (soon to get it)
-Jean D'Arc (another Tactics type game)
-Dissidia Final Fantasy (soon to come out, soul caliber but with FF characters)
-Force unleashed (soon to come out)

I could mention more but i thought this would be a good starting point. I hope I helpoed you in your future purchase.

the first syphon philter on the psp was pretty good, I know that. Lego indiana jones, and I really liked star wars battlefront 2, as well as vice city stories. I haven't played liberty city stories but I can only guess it's just as good.

wow, thanks for the response -Seraph-. Most likely though I'm going to order my PSP online (like Amazon or something) but thanks for that awesome list of games :D I've got plenty of money to burn but I'm still going to be a cheap ass and save up some more cash for other things (like PS3 games...)

Glad I could help :D

Main reason I recommended Best buy was the 2 year warranty. A piece of hardware like that should be protected with a good warranty. Just hope your not too careless with it so you wont regret it if you by any chance break it.

I don't keep up with PSP games for the most part, but I do have one and I use the hell out of it... as an MP3 player and SNES emulator.

That said, I recommend you buy at least a 2 gig memory stick. They're very inexpensive, and you'll really unleash your PSP's true potential when you actually have room to store things besides game data.

I bought the daxter entertainment pack (the second time around) so I now have 2 copies of daxter. But the silver slim PSP is "bitching". Get a slim one, they're much better.

So do all bundles nowadays come with the slimmer PSP (PSP-2000)? I'll definatly look into the Daxter Bundle and make sure to get some extras to. I might hold off a bit though because I've heard some stuff about a PSP-3000 or whatever it's called.

Yes, they do, the Battlefront bundle has a white PSP with Vader, Battlefront 2, and maybe some movie, I don't know. The Daxter pack has Daxter, a silver PSPs, and a family guy UMD, the god of war one has a red PSP, with god of war and I believe Superbad.

I can't recommend high enough that you hack it. I bought mine for the sake of PSP games, and that thought died within the week. There certainly are some good games on the PSP, but I just never play them anymore. All it ever gets used for is video playback, SNES emulators, and PSX games that I missed during their era. Fortunately, that's all I ever really wanted in it as a portable.

You can get the Datel hotwire for like $20.

Im not sure how you like your games but assuming your like the rest of us I recommend you talk to the owner of the local gaming shop as they often play more games than a barrel full of acne ridden middle school nerds.

Yes all the bundles now come with PSP 2000 (slim), they have stopped making fat PSP's a while ago. As for the PSP 3000 you speak of, well might not wanna hold out when the slim is pretty good as it is and it came out only a year ago. I doubt they will release a new model of it for a while as the PSP is meant to last about 10 years and it's only into it's 3rd.

Okay, I've done the math (good thing math is my favorite subject) and I've found out if I get the following purchases:

Daxter Bundle; $200
Patapon; $20
LoccoRocco: $30
God of War Chains of olympus: $30

It would only total up to $280. I have more than enough money for that and if I put in the prices for the games used then I'd have:

Bundle: $200
Patapon: $10
LoccoRocco: $15
God of War: $30
(estimating atleast)

I save even more money :D by about $40 (i'm such a cheapskate) with more than enough money saved over for some PSN and PS3 games.

Thank you guys for your help (especially you Seraph!), I appreciate it :) One more question, is game data saved on the disc or the handheld itself? Because if I buy used and the latter being true, then I'd have to do the troublesome thing of deleting their files and stuff.

EDIT: Your saves are recorded on the memory stick, to answer your question. Not in the game and I don't think there is a harddrive or internal memory to save to.

I was disappointed with my PSP after the original glee of 'eee I have a PSP' wore off. But, you seem to want one, and the PSP is good for some people, it just wasn't good for me! So I'll let you know what I can about the PSP!

The only UMD I really liked for it was Appleseed and Family Guy. I didn't mind watching it on the tiny screen. On the topic of UMDs, they're not extremely popular and thus pretty darned cheap. Everyone wants to just get rid of them. So even if you're not thinking about watching too many movies on your PSP, look into it. You never know when you'll feel like zoning out on a cool movie while on the bus/long car ride/waiting in a waiting room.

Research your bundles well! -Seraph- pretty much has you taken care of there. The original bundle I got years ago (I don't think they sell it anymore this way, wish they did) included the original PSP, memory stick, charger, car charger, screen cleaner, USB cable, very neat. You'll really want to go for a bundle that includes the memory stick, they're expensive. But hey, maybe you already have one? The memory stick is the same one Sony uses in their Cybershot digital cameras.

The screen will smudge and get icky easily, so really treat it tenderly and get a good cloth to clean it with rather than any old rag. You're probably used to this, having a DS though. The only other part that gave me trouble was the analog stick. Somehow, someway, (and I treat my things very well) the stick broke off. Luckily, they are easy to replace and allow for even more personalization of your PSP. You can get the stick cover in different colors and textures.

The games I owned for it were:
Armored Core
Tokobot
Legend of Heroes
(another RPG I can't remember the name of..)
Ah.. There were more but I can't remember.. The ones you have picked out, especially Patapon, have received great reviews and are unique and great for the PSP system! The PSP is also great for those FF remakes.

About Hacking Your PSP and Using HomeBrew - You'll become familiar with home brew pretty quickly. If you want to hack your PSP to have emulators and all kinds of things that it shouldn't, home brew is the way to go. But, of course, Sony hates hacking and will continue those automatic updates. If you want to home brew, do not update your PSP until you have checked out which version supports hacking and what latest update does not. This means you may have to sacrifice a cool update perk in order to keep your hacks. Choices, choices.

Well considering UMDs are mini disks...NO. The PSP acts just like all other Playstation consoles, the game saves are saved on a memory stick not the disk. You need to buy a memory stick in order to save anything on your psp. The most common mem sticks for the PSP are the pro duo's. you can buy them in certain sizes, their largest one to date being 16 gigs. Memory sticks from 1-4 gigs are relatively cheap and a recommended size for the average PSP user who wants to save their games, some music and vids. This is why I recomended the daxter bundle as for some odd reason its the only bundle I have found to include a 1 gig mem stick.

I don't plan on hacking my PSP for fear of breaking it (seriously, I break everything nowadays)

I have a DS and I hoped I'd get some use out of it like my friend did (I absolutely loved Elite Beat Agents, where the hell is out EBA2?!?!?) but unfortunately, like my Wii, it barely gets any play time. I'm not much of a handheld guy but compared to some stuff I got on the PSN, DS games didn't have the overall depth I hoped I'd get from it (doesn't mean it has to, just saying). Many games on the PSP interest me and even my friend wants me to get one (mainly for Patapon), so I'm very interested in getting one and I've final decided on purchasing one. (this is starting to sound like my intro)

Anyway, thanks for the advice Ionait, I'll be getting the Daxter bundle along with GoW, Patapon, and LoccoRocco as my first few games when I get it. Again, Thanks.

EDIT, yet AGAIN: How much game data would you estimate the 1gig memory stick could take? I don't plan on putting any music or shows on my PSP, I have an iPod for that (an ipod that needs serious updates on music)

Just for game saves? Well most are 128 or 256 KB only exception are Franchise/roster saves that saves that can take up to 4 MB.

EDIT:Surprised this isn't the other way around (Getting DS have PSP) Since PSP has Playstation in it.
