The show sure seems like a soap opera (in regards to one character at least) but I think it's actually categorized as a drama. Anyway, if you're not familiar with the show, it has to do with incorporating and expanding upon the stories from many western culture classics.
The reason I watch is because the writing is good. There is so much backstory that isn't written about most characters. Where did Rumpletsiltskin come from and how did he get his powers? How did Grumpy get his name? How did the Wicked Witch's talking mirror get that power? How does a cricket become someone's conscience?
So far they've used parts or characters from these stories:
Snow White
Cinderella
Beauty & The Beast
Little Red Riding Hood
The Wizard of Oz
Pinocchio
Hansel & Gretel
The Genie of the Lamp
Rumplestiltskin
101 Dalmations
The Chronicles of Narnia
King Midas
King Arthur
The Rape of Persephone
Billy Goat's Gruff (unconfirmed)
Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater (unconfirmed)
The thread is of other characters that you might hope to see in the show. Some of my requests are:
Paul Bunyan
Johnny Appleseed
The Cheshire Cat
La Llorona
Herne the Hunter
Tinkerbell
Humpty Dumpty
