Once you've been black...

I bought a Nintendo Wii a few years ago. And it was fun, for a while. We had some great times, my Nintendo Wii and I, dancing beneath vibrant rainbows and taking picnics in fields gently speckled with daffodils.

But then I got sick of not having access to things like Bioshock and Assassin's Creed, and pretty much any good sandbox game of this generation. And the relationship soured. Some nights we'd just sit there watching television on the sofa, not making eye contact, avoiding saying what we really thought. It seemed like the magic had somehow been lost...

And then I bought a PS3. And it's fantastic. But ever since I bought it, I simply haven't been able to get back into the Wii. It just sits there beside my magnificent black colossus that is the PS3, looking weak and pitiful. I even bought Red Steel 2 to try to bring some excitement into the relationship, to rekindle the passion that once was there (to continue with this terrible analogy). But alas and alack, my efforts were to no avail. Still my Wii languishes in shame and ignominy, staring at me with resentment as myself and my PS3 skip hand in hand into the sunset.

So, does anyone else have the same problem? If you had a Wii and then bought a PS3/360, did you find it difficult to keep playing the Wii? Did you overcome the graphical downgrade and continue to live a happy and idyllic life with your Wii, laughing joyously as you made cupcakes together and took scenic drives in the country?

Any thoughts, people?

Is it strange? After all the Wii doesn't really cater to the more than "casual-players" needs. If you are really into gaming then the Wii isn't going to offer more than like 4 titles, (one of those being on the gamecube), while the PS3/360 consoles offer a vast array of different games to fit all gamers (unlike the kinect games... "Games everyone can enjoy"... Yeah right Microsoft, maybe it's time to take a look at what everyone means).

Once you go black, you don't back.

And, yeah....The Wii is hard to get into, after you settle with something more versatile.

I started with a 360, bought a wii, and never play it. But literally all my friends who bought the wii first did the same thing as you.

I agree, wiis are complete novelties.
They amused me for about half an hour, and I'm glad I've never purchased one, only played them at other people's houses.

This is the exact same thing that happened to me.
The Wii gets a noteworthy game, what, once every half a year? I don't mean to bash the console, but really, very few games for it actually pique my interest.
I'd still kill for a version of Super Mario Galaxy that didn't have piss-poor motion control gimmicks.

Oh yeah, big time. After I finished Twilight Princess it's stopped being anything more than a "Hmm let's have a 20 minute play around on showdown mode on Wii Sports Resort" once every few months. Feels like a total waste of money.

Yeah I have a wii that I never really play. It's a good system to have around when you're doing some heavy drinking and you have wii sports resort. But overall not worth it.

OT: Yes, I was a Wii exclusive gamer up until the start of 2008, when I bought an Xbox 360. It just seemed much better, and my Wii is currently gathering dust.

Gathering dust until Zelda: Skyward Sword is released. AWW YEAAAAH!

I just prefer sitting down when I play, not flailing my arms like (insert Yahtzee mannerism here). It doesn't make mean I hate the wii I'm just lazy.

I didn't exactly buy the Wii to get into any mainstream games in the first place. I have a PC for that. So no, I didn't have some kind of "culture shock" between playing GTA4, Modern Warfare, and then all of a sudden Super Mario Galaxy. I understand what the Wii's good at, and, more importantly, that I play games, not consoles. I know what to expect when I play No More Heroes, and, I assure you, it's not the graphics.

The Wii is a casual console. Apart from Zelda, Resident Evil and similar games, there are very few "serious" games on the Wii. Plus the online community is pretty appalling. It doesn't help that, compared to 360 and PS3, the graphics are meh, and generally games are a lot shorter.

I only occasionally play it to whack out a bit of RE4 or Super Smash with friends.

My friend bought a Wii the same time I bought a PS3. He was all like "Fuck yeah, Super Smash Bros!" until he got bored. Then we played InFAMOUS.

My PC is even bigger and blacker than your PS3. It has technology so advanced that the Porche driving, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter refuses to admit that it exists. I still play on the Wii.

Yeah, I have the same thing. My Wii is gathering dust in the shadow of my Xbox 360. (literally, that thing is like three times the size of the Wii!) In a way it's kind of a shame, the Wii has got some good games too, it's just that... well, the 360 has a lot more, and generally they're better too. Plus I'm totally addicted to TF2 and there's nothing remotely like that on the Wii.

I did the same thing, with an xbox. Well, technically, me and my brother got a Wii as a join Christmas present. Poor little Wii, if only you were more like the Gamecube, which I actually really loved as a console. Some great titles there...

Needless to say, the motion consoles are what sets back the Wii as a console. A traditional controller is just better for better games design.

No I do not have these crazy fantasies with my Wii like you have. SO no, we do not share the same ... problem.

OT:
I still love my N64 and Gamecube to death even though I mostly play 360. And it does not feel like a downgrade, atleast not to me.

No it's sort of the oposite for me. No matter what I buy, I end up going back to PC games within a few weeks.

On a related note, I'd be happy to take the Wii off your hands if the price is reasonable. I'd probably only use it to play Brawl, but who knows.
