You know I have the distinct feeling that originally spore had all the gameplay depth we have been craving in the game then some exec at EA got the idea to strip out all of the depth for each phase and package it in it's own expansion pack.

That's not a feeling, that is your common sense telling you the truth.

EA is run by nothing more than economists and managers (no offence to professionals in those fields here on the board), they don't know what consumers want, only what they want. Which is obviously more control and more money. That they rape their consumers doing so is of no concern to them, as long as their short term profits are going up.

If only EA had some sense and put the Studio/Dev leads of their assimilated studios on the board, then we might see the turn around they'd like us to think they are making, but I guess that won't happen until someone removes the current board of directors from office.

EA have gone down hill, I'm hoping they don't break red alert 3, as command and conquer is my favorite series, and tiberian wars wasn't amazing...

While I'm not convinced the source is 100% reliable, I have read on several webpages that Spore has actually become the most pirated game during its first week of release, with over 500,000 people downloading a cracked copy. It was even available to download a day before it shipped, so surely that should give EA some idea that their DRM is, quite frankly, useless.

RA3 has the same security core as Spore and so will every game released by EA from now on.
So, sorry to say, yes they will break it. They did increase the install limit to 5 though.

I think I'm going to cry... That looked so amazing. Why did Westwood go that way?

Westwood is mostly Petroglyph Studios these days, it's mainly the C&C IPs that EA still holds, very little of the original development studio remains in EA hands.

Yeah, that was the main concern I had, (selfish me), I was just thinking 'pleasepleasepleaseplease dont let EA get hold of GTA'

I could see them going 'well, our focus group doesn't like violence, and they feel the lack of respect for authority is bad, and there's no need for the language, and isn't having cars in the game a bit obvious? Lets replace them all with eco friendly bicycles, and maybe we can Olympic brand it for 2012! We'll just change the title to 'GTA - Olympic Cycling 2012'

it is this crap EA has been pulling that makes me WISH i had pirated the game rather than buy it!

they want to treat their custumers like common criminals? then THAT is EXACTLY what we will give them!!!!

EA needs to figure out there PLACE! they think they can swindle their own customers? they think they have the power over us... but it is US that hold the power! WE ARE WHAT MAKES EA! WE ARE EA! and if we dont like what OUR company is doing, WE WILL TEAR IT DOWN and start anew!

Their response is typical of PR, asking the wrong question "Is this somehow our fault?" instead of the incalculably more productive "Is there something we can do about this?" Who cares if this is a feature they were planning on offering? Obviously people want it. They should be looking for a way to implement it. This was a principle I learned from working a hot dog stand in a warehouse store. Surely highly payed executives can figure it out.
lol PERFECT example of EA's STUPIDITY. even a man selling HOT DOGS to a couple of workers knows more about business than a whole COMPANY of ppl selling to MILLIONS.
some asshole may try stealing a hotdog or even a few bucks from the register while he's not looking, and he knows that
does that mean he threatens anyone who approaches the stand with a bat so that they wont try to steal? NO, because its impractical, and then everyone would just steal the first chance they get, just out of SPITE

Spore was one of the most ambitious games ever thought up, and they butchered it. Not just the DRM, but the way that one dude (was it Heckner?) just totally crapped all over Wright's idea for what it was going to be - more like Sim Earth was than like a Sim Cartoon Network Show.

I still enjoy playing Spore, but it had so much more potential than what it is. It is such a shame.

EDIT: Wow! Necro'd topic. Yeah, I must've missed this one, but what made you rez it? EA hate?
