their is a kid I grew up with that forwhatever medical reason wasent born with his arms and legs. He has stubs where his knees and elbows would be. not only does he game, hes a damn good gamer. He plays CSS on computers, and plays CoD and other shooters on Xbox. He sits the controller on his lap, and uses his nubs to move the stick, to shoots he pushs the trigger with his thighs.

As others have noted, text games, point and click adventure games, and visual novels are the probably the best genre. Although the last of those to see widespread commercial release was Heavy Rain, and due to its way of using QTE rather than choices it would probably be hard to play with only one hand. Sam & Max maybe?

Maybe also some of the more old school RTS games which don't require a lot of micromanagement, something like the earlier C&C installments.

Dwarf Fortress! Everything is keyboard shortcuts! Also, you can pause and issue commands before continuing!

You'll just need to make sure your arm stays broken throughout the 3-month learning period.

One of the things Bayonetta advertised was their "One Hand mode". They have a controller configuration designed for playing with one hand.

If you are into MMO's, you could try out Eve. I once broke my right arm, but I was still able to play games with both hands anyway (actually it was my shoulder), well consoles at least.
Other than that I dont really have any idea what games you can play with one hand.

Obviously strategy and dome turn based roleplaying would be high on that list.

Civ5 has been getting a workout, but looking for something more.

So, funny story. I read a story once about a guy who broke his hand also, and he was an avid WoW player who played a Death Knight. So, since his hand was broken, but he wanted to raid, he wrote a macro for his Death Knight that would cast each spell in his rotation and them reset. Then he bound the macro to Scroll Wheel up on his mouse.

So, of course I had to try it on my DK, and wouldn't you know it but it worked like a charm?

Wow was sadly easy like that, I had my raid lock set with everything on one macro as well from 70 raiding to 80 raiding XD same with my hunter, and well the warrior was a little more finicky but their more fun when you don't macro everything, and of course the Elemental shaman, o lawd the time efficient spam bolts.

OT: Any Flash game on played directly on the browser that doesn't require wasd or arrow keys.

Bayonetta. That's definately a game intended to be played one-handed.

Joking aside I'd try some turn-based RPG's. They don't require the quick reactions that most action games do so they can be played pretty well with only one hand.

you can play guitar hero/rock band is you strum with your elbow. it's really hard though. you can also play plenty of wii games, but i doubt you'd sink that low (comment refers only to crappy shovelware that is played by waving the remote around so do not quote this and be angry)

Try UFO: Alien Invasion for a turn-based game. It's not very high production (you'll notice what I mean soon enough) But it's a pretty cool game. Best of all is it's totaly free .
