How many buttons does your mouse have? With enough extra buttons Magicka can be played one handed quite comfortably.
It's a standard mouse (2 buttons + wheel), and I don't want to spend money on one of those gaming mice
That's fair enough. Most of turn-based strategy and 4X games can be played with one hand. I've been addicted to Civilization lately but I'm guessing you're already aware of Civ. Turn based CRPGs like Fallout or Avernum should be pretty easy to play one handed, too.

Point 'n' click games might be a good way to go if you're into them. Wadjet Eye make/publish some fantastic games, Gemini Rue being the most well known and my personal favourite. The Blackwell Series is pretty good stuff, too.

There's quite a few indie platformers you can play one handed, like Super Meat Boy or Limbo.

There's also quite a few strategy games, like X-Com enemy unknown, that only require the use of a mouse to play.

You could also go with some point and click adventure games, like The Walking Dead (or pretty much anything from telltale).

Battle For Wesnoth is a free strategy RPG that I would recommend. It's turn based so you don't really have a need for more than one hand.

Red Alert 2 if you can find it is my favourite rts of all time.

Audiosurf if you like music.

I have mild cerebral palsy which affects the fine motor skills in my right hand, so I get where you're coming from.

That being said, anything is playable with one hand. You won't be as good and you will have trouble getting past certain parts of games, but it's doable.

I've done it for the last twelve years (been gaming since I was 3.)

Starcraft and other RTS are playable 1 handed.

You'll just have harder time competing with other people.

I can't think of anything that hasn't been mentioned so far, but this thread did remind me of a (surprisingly official Sony) PS1 controller, which was designed out the gate for playing RPGs 1 handed. I wonder how common they are today?

I won't bother with slower games like RTS and JRPGs as those are obvious

VVVVV, Super Hexagon, Lesbian Spider Queens From Mars, Canabalt

Also you can use autofire to play old shmups and over head run and gun games. Also if you use the keyboard arrow keys for movement you can use your thumb and little finger on R Ctrl and the Numpad.

I suggest you buy a few arcade and 16bit collections and see what you like.

If you really want to play modern games you could always buy a specialised 1 handed controller. Also Wii-mote games especially Lightgun games are worth a go. (which you can use on the PC if you buy a bluetooth receiver)

Oh, but you absolutely should.
Even in normal circumstances, a few extra buttons can be enormously useful. You can remap a lot of things to thumb buttons. Also, even if your thumb and index finger's out of commission, you've still got three fingers on your left hand. That's enough to use WASD. Though because your little finger being shorter than the others, you might have to remap some keys for comfort. Then you could map the usual keys (Q, E, R, F, C, Ctrl, Space, etc.) to your mouse's thumb buttons, if you had one. With practice, you could play Keyboard + Mouse games unhindered.

When I broke my left hand, I still played games with a gamepad. Had it on my lap and controlled both sticks with my right hand. It was tricky, and I couldn't play fast-paced games well, but it worked out alright. Final Fantasy X was the game that I played the most, because it didn't require too much dexterity.

Whenever there's an obstacle, ignore it and proceed anyway. Just make shit up as you go.

Endless Space is a 4X that you can play with only a mouse, and being turn based is a pretty steady pace. The only thing you need the keyboard for is naming the ships you design. Plus it has the added bonus of basically being crack. It's just virtual drugs. You can't resist taking your next hit, or 'turn', and suddenly you have no idea where the last 26 hours went.

Also, I don't know if you have any of the playstations, but that controller is shockingly simple to use one handed. I played through the whole of Final Fantasy IX that way. Ozma still murdered me within, like, a minute, but that's not unusual.

I don't know if you like JRPGs but you can generally play the older ones with one hand. You can use an emulator to play it on your PC.
