Hey Escapists,

I'm sure some of you will share my pain.

Recently i've found a bunch of my old games while doing a clear out. One of them was Baldur's Gate 2. I just opened the box to install it and relive the good ol' days to find that disk 2 is missing. Just my bloody luck!

Anyone else had this happen? Better yet, does anyone have a solution?

Yeah, I recently tried to play this game, Baldur's Gate 2, but, to my surprise, the second disk was missing.

I bought a new set off Ebay, instantly.

What? It's a fucking good game.

you could download it, and just use the cd key in the box (that's legal right?)

My third disc of Final Fantasy XIII was missing. I took it back to the shop and they didn't give me a refund saying that he put all three in and I must have removed it. Riiight...

I've never had a problem with just losing a disc in a set. Actually, I've only ever lost one game. Fire Emblem for the Gameboy Advance, I was so sad when I couldn't find it.

I make a habit of putting discs back into their boxes, but my Crysis one's gone and I can't find it anywhere.

Thank fuck for Steam and digital distribution, I say.

No idea! I haven't downloaded a game for years so not sure on the legality.

Thanks to blu ray, I need not worry about losing individual disks. However, it would always be safer with digital distribution. Steam, me-thinks.

I make sure I put the discs back in their cases; I get annoyed if a mate comes over and does not.

However my PS2 decided to stop playing PS1 games which means if I want to play an old Final Fantasy or something...well I'll have to find alternate means :/
Saying that, my disc cases for 7, 8 and 9 are all broken...

The closest to that I think would be when I first tried to install Age of Empires III, I put in disc 1, installed it, and then it says "Please insert disc 1" as if it didnt recognize the fact that it had already been reading said disc, and from that point on I can no longer install it. I really wanna play that game. :(

I did have the third disc of Legend of Dragoon scratched up so bad I couldnt play. It sucked.

Well its probably a gray area, i'm sure the publisher would want you to believe thats illegal but when you buy a game, you aren't buying the disk and the box, but you are buying the licence to play the game. So in my books, downloading a game you have already bought cant be illegal.

My 2 cents canadian

My last recourse is to send them this e-mail.

Dear Bioware,

I have a sad tale to tell.

Once, long ago when the world was young and games came not from digital distribution but the square CD cases of myth a young boy came across one such game. It's name was Baldur's Gate II, and it promised adventure and freedom beyond all of his dreams.

With notes of trade, pried convincingly from his father's own belt pouch, the young boy marched up to the owner of the shop, a wizard or sorcerer of mystical repute and placed his heart's desire upon the table, along with the notes of trade that he hoped would sway the old wizard's mind into letting him walk from the shop, prize in hand. The transaction completed and the boy was triumphant. He played the game for many moons, friends passing him to stare at the dream scape conjured by the artefact he had bartered. Later on in his life, he even bought another game, about a Throne of Baal which added to the artefacts power.

But as all stories say, things were not to stay the same forever. The boy grew up into a man and other games took Baldur's Gate II's place, games of a Land of Neverwinter, a Mass Effect and even an Age of Dragons. Baldur's Gate II was left, forgotton. Alone in the darkest recesses of the attic.

But it was not to end it's life there, for the boy, now a man found it once more. His eyes lit up as he remembered the power that this thing once had. Opening the case and opening the CD tray he went to place the first disk to be read, but was halted.

Out of the four disks, there was only three. Disc 2 was missing, lost to the void. The man was defeated by time and entropy. He cursed himself for losing it, cursed himself twice for his carelessness. But before he could curse himself thrice, he paused.

"I must seek out the Creators, the Keymasters, the Dream-Lords, the High Kings of Bioware. They may give me what I seek, a disc 2, so I may play Baldur's Gate II's once more. Or, they shall laugh and pity my pleas for aid."

So he divined the e-mail address through use of Google and basic internet search skills and set about writing his tale down, in hopes it would warm the hearts of the Keymasters.

How this story ends, is up to you,

The Brave Adventurer

PS: TL;DR: I lost Disc 2 of Baldur's Gate II, can I have another one please?

It's legal if you can prove you really own the game. Which generally just means you have the game in disc form. Not that they make that easy if you get caught, they usually send you a letter telling you to delete it first, and to not do that anymore /wristslap.

It'd never make it to court if you actually owned the game though.

That is quite the yarn. I doubt you'll get much out of it, but at least whoever reads it will at least crack a smile.

Well, you never know right? Bioware seem like alright sorts, and if they are anything like Valve, they may send me it. Or a poster of Liara telling me to buy more DLCs.
