A guy agreed to sell me the Orange Box for 5$ and emailed back later saying that the disc was absent from the case. :/

Does that count a little?
Sure, welcome aboard!

When I was a lot younger, I lost my Shining Force 2 cartridge. I turned the house upside down looking for that. It was my favourite game. :(

More recently, I wanted to play Max Payne 2 and discovered I've lost one of the CD's. Most annoying.

SimCity 4. I borrowed it from my dad. Every time I get partway into the installation it demands a second disc. Not only is there no second disc, there's no indication that there ever was one. There doesn't seem to be any place for it in the box. I am very confused.
I had an issue sort of like that once. Years upon years ago I bought Dungeon Keeper 2 to play on my PC. It installed fine, but when it came to actually trying to play the game it kept asking me to insert the play disc. There was only one disc and there was only enough space in the case for one disc.

On topic: No I haven't had an issue like this before. I put all my games back into their cases and I sure as hell make sure that my lazy ass brother puts my games back in their cases after he's done playing them.

Slightly similarly, I went through a period of time where I had to replace my copies of any blizzard game 2-3 times before it would work - the CD keys on the manuals would be wrong, I'd need to return the CD and get a new one. For diablo 2, LOD, Warcraft 3...

I'm pretty sure you can download stuff as backups if you own the game, so you should be okay to get the second disc that way. You are using a legimate CD key and have the rest of the game, right?

I had to buy Age of mythology three times for that same reason, it has 2 discs and one expansion, so I'm keeping it in a safe place now.

All my Ape Escape games. The one thing I enjoyed about my 360 breaking down was looking forward to replaying while it was getting repaired. I was heart broken.

I have 3 different copies of Call of Duty and Call of Duty: United Offensive. And all of them are missing disc one. And I also have Call of Duty 2 and I have all of the discs except disc one. It's truly horrible.

I bought Tales of Symphonia for the Game Cube, back when I had a Game Cube,
I recently bought a new Game Cube for the purpose of playing Tales of Symphonia, (and RE4)
and I can only find disk 2 of TOS, I have both RE4 disks so I shouldn't complain
but TOS goes for like $120 bucks on line now, so I feel like crap

take better care of your discs is what I say.

Couldn't you go and buy another copy of the game, its bound to be cheap.

you could download it, and just use the cd key in the box (that's legal right?)
perfectly legal: when you buy the game you don'y buy the discs, you buy the right to own and play it. So whether you install it from a disc, a harddrive, a torrented iso, etc it doesn't matter.
Indeed in the past I've ordered a game online, and then downloaded it rather than waiting for the disc to be delivered because I was impatient: nothing illegal as i'd already paid :p
The only one I wasn't sure about was Demigod because I pre-ordered the UK version, but the US version was released a week before so I downloaded that, so strictly speaking I stole the US version... oooh the gilt >.<

I am usually pretty good with this, but I cannot find my Dark Forces CD, my Jedi knight CD, or my Black and White CD. It makes me very sad. :'(

When I was younger, I didn't treat discs well, so my Riven disc 2 fell on the floor near the computer and my mom rolled the computer chair over it, snapping it. We called Cyan Worlds and they sent us a new one, and I had a happy. Other than that, I've had a few times where I'm trying to reinstall older games but I find I lost the manual with the CD key printed on it, which is frustrating to no end.

I have no idea where my copy of disc 4 to Gabriel Knight 2 is. And that breaks my heart, since that was the best chapter in the game.

I recently bought Dawn of War Platinum Edition. I only really wanted Dark Crusade, but I figured "what the hell, its only $10 more and I get the first two as well" So I am able to install Dawn of War and Winter Assault, but as soon as I get to Dark Crusade, I get a fucking Cyclic redundancy error.

Meaning that the disc is broken. And I can't replace it, since I live in Ottawa, and I bought it from a Best Buy in Chicago. Goddammit.

Oh, that's another one! I lent Jedi Knight to my friend years ago, and I recently found my old disc for it. Turns out the idiot lost the other one.

Yeah, I recently tried to play this game, Baldur's Gate 2, but, to my surprise, the second disk was missing.

I bought a new set off Ebay, instantly.

What? It's a fucking good game.
Same thing for me but with KoTOR 2, found a missing disc and jumped straight on eBay looking for "Buy It Now" options. I... I've never played the fan patch which is why I was so keen to play it again. Oh and before I got an external DVD drive I installed Baldur's gate on my netbook using Daemon Tools Lite, so you can install, and run the game using a virtual drive if you can get a disk image.

Is it verified through steam? If it is you can verify the code and download the game. If it isn't the manufacturer should replace the disc for you if you can return it. Contact Relic or THQ if that is the publisher (it is for DoW2) and see what you can do. They will want you to have a positive experience with their games. Chase it up, don't accept it.
