I somehow managed to lose Disk 2 of an original edition of Final Fantasy VII. Not the Greatest Hits. I've since moved, twice, so who knows where the hell it is. Sigh.

I'm glad to be able to download the game on PSN, but still. That might have been a collectors item one day.

A guy agreed to sell me the Orange Box for 5$ and emailed back later saying that the disc was absent from the case. :/

Does that count a little?
No, because the CD-Key has already been registered to his steam account, so you were paying 5$ for 5 games you wouldn't have been able to play.

I rediscovered my Gameboy Pocket, but lo and behold, Super Mario Land is no where. All I have for platformers is the vastly inferior Super Mario Land 2 and the ok-but-completely-different Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land.

I recently bought Dawn of War Platinum Edition. I only really wanted Dark Crusade, but I figured "what the hell, its only $10 more and I get the first two as well" So I am able to install Dawn of War and Winter Assault, but as soon as I get to Dark Crusade, I get a fucking Cyclic redundancy error.

Meaning that the disc is broken. And I can't replace it, since I live in Ottawa, and I bought it from a Best Buy in Chicago. Goddammit.
Is it verified through steam? If it is you can verify the code and download the game. If it isn't the manufacturer should replace the disc for you if you can return it. Contact Relic or THQ if that is the publisher (it is for DoW2) and see what you can do. They will want you to have a positive experience with their games. Chase it up, don't accept it.
I've tried putting the CD-Key in on Steam. It says that Steam offers the Platinum Edition, but so far it has rejected my cd-key on every occasion.

I am missing my disc to Hype the Time Quest. I played that game over and over so many times as a kid. Not all the way through, but started and stopped. Eventually I did beat it.

I lost the second disc for Parasite Eve. That really hurt.

Legend of Dragoon, I currently have the first two dics, but loaned out the second two to a friend that was ahead of me. I moved away and forgot to retrieve them.

My discs for Rome: Total War are corrupted, but luckily Steam exists.

I have my United Offensive disc, but not the one for the original CoD.

I have the expansion disc for Age of Empires 2, but not the original.

I have the disc, but I can't find the manual for my copy of Spore, making it a real headache to try and install again.

I remember back in the day, between me, my brother and my friend we had 3 copies of Final Fantasy VIII, and one of the disks, if not more, in all the sets had been scratched beyond use, or lost. Which means to play it we'd be constantly trading disks between each other till we finished it. We now own just one working copy between the three of us, somewhere.
I think in the end we got bored of the broken ones and hit them with sticks till they shattered.

I've never been unfortunate enough to lose the disc to a game, but I was recently at half-price books for the first time. Oh, what a joy it was to discover such a paradise for a not-quite-retro PC gamer like myself.

Rome Total War for HOW MUCH? $1.50? I was sold. I got home and discovered that they'd only sold me disc 3.

FAIL.

EDIT: On the bright side, I was able to pick up a new copy of Hearts of Iron III for $9.99. Hooray!

If I had a nickel for every copy of Diablo 2 I have rebought, I would have... $0.20. Hehe. But you can probably see my point. I feel your pain. Check Amazon, Ebay, or see if the cd key works with the download thing.

But if you buy it from Amazon buy it new and not used, because apparently that is worse than piracy to some people around here! We need to make sure Black Isle sees their money. XD

SimCity 4. I borrowed it from my dad. Every time I get partway into the installation it demands a second disc. Not only is there no second disc, there's no indication that there ever was one. There doesn't seem to be any place for it in the box. I am very confused.
There is a second disc for SC4, and you are boned. I'm sorry.

OT: I had to Re-purchase Descent 3. I couldn't live without that game, and disc 1 went missing.

Yes! A while back, before I moved for the gazillionth time, I had Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for PC, and loved it.

Fast forward a few moves, and a few computers later, I find the case, eagerly run to the computer to relive childhood memories, and lo and behold, there's no disc in sight.

Of course, I could always get The Prisoner of Azkaban for the xbox, and play that instead.

that shit happens to me now
I have 2 younger brothers who take absolute horrible care of my gaming stuff, today the older one got pissed off and snapped my old DS in half, I think I might have killed him if it hadn't been for the fact the I already replaced it with a DSiXL

Now THAT is sad...
Actually, I'm hoping I won't get probated for this, but piracy IS legal if you've lost a copy of the game... at least it is in New Zealand. I think the same goes for America.
Speaking of which, that'd entitle me to get a copy of Age of Mythology...

I got LOTR:BFME for $5 and used the case to hold some games I was going to return. When I sold the games, I left the case with the CD key in it as well. My soul weeps even to this day...

Ok, I think they must have made those disks out of something that disintergrates as I have 2 copies of Morrowind and can only find the 2 TES Construction Set disks :(

I also managed to lose my copy of Zeld: Links Awakening Dx which really annoyed me.

I used to have a copy of Hitman: Silent Assassin. I'm relatively sure a former friend 'borrowed' the disc without my consent.

One game I particularly miss is Max Payne, with that awesome Kung Fu mod that was released. Since getting my current PC, my old disc for the game doesn't work, and I've desperately been trying to get a working copy for this machine.

Some other games I've wanted to reinstall but can't because of various issues include; Jedi Academy (ended up purchasing it off Steam), and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 due to a heavily mutilated disc. Those are the ones that stick out in my mind anyway. Can't figure why Jedi Academy wouldn't work, Outcast installed fine, and there didn't appear to be anything wrong with Academy's disc.

I do truly feel sorry for the folks who would honestly care for their games and want to keep them in top condition, but have siblings or friends that treat said games with the worst lack of respect imagineable. Honestly, when anyone asks to game with me, I lay down the law about the physical manifestations of my favourite hobby.
