besides how is marvel putting northstar in positive light? they made him canadian.
When I read that it left a bad taste in my mouth. Please tell me I just read that sentence wrong, because it comes off as offensive otherwise.

On topic; When we heard about DC comic's decisions to make one of it's characters gay, I have seen this coming. And you have probably seen this coming as well. I think this line is my favourite;

"This is ridiculous! Why do adult gay men need comic superheroes as role models? They don't but do want to indoctrate [sic] impressionable young minds by placing these gay characters on pedestals in a positive light."

Yes, ignoring the fact that there are children who are having trouble coming out of the closet and learning to accept their sexuality, this is certainly a plot by the gays to convert more children into being gay. Because reading about someone who is gay is enough to transform a kid into a homosexual. The stupidity evident in these people's statements makes my brain hurt.

The only ridiculous people here are the people who actually have a problem with DC doing this sort of thing. It's true that they could fuck it up, but as it stands this is looking to be a very positive thing. I feel sorry for the many reasonable Christians out there who have to be painted in a bad light because of people like this.

Then why are you silent?
There is no sitting on the fence with this your either against it, or you tell the bigots in your local church they are the ones who should be hanging themselves due to hate and bullying not Innocent gay's
This is an argument in the real world which means you can do something about it.
He's not being silent. He's telling you that he's not like that. Unless by "silent", you mean "not going outside with a megaphone to broadcast his stance to the whole world".

One Million Moms isn't even ten thousand strong, look at their facebook page. Who cares what they think?

Also, it's totally Martian Manhunter.

The "One Million Moms" Should have "Not" put in front of their name, so they become the "Not One Million Moms" and is truth in advertising. They also become the NOMMs.

Couldn't you argue that, perhaps, having such a vast majority of heterosexual superheroes could be some sort of evil attempt to "indoctrinate" non-heterosexual readers? No, because either scenario is absolutely absurd and needs to be thrown out the window.

And yes, kids are impressionable, but isn't it the responsibility of the parents to educate their children? Help them understand such a complex and intimate thing sexuality is? And what is and is not okay, in general? It isn't the world's responsibility to filter everything in life for those young'n'impressionable ones, it's the parents responsibility.

Using children as a justification to resist this sort of progress within media (God forbid media grow and evolve with society!) is frustrating to see.

After how many years being married to one of those Million Losers, turning gay seems like the best escape plan.

So... the superheroes were fine role models before... but now that one is gay he/she is no longer a good rolemodel?

Wearing the hate right out on their sleeves right there... 1950's racists would be proud...

After reading through about half of the replies, I'm reminded why I am a conservative instead of a liberal. I use logic.

My problem here isn't that I think the group against a gay comic character is right. It's just that out of the forty-some-odd replies I read which had all decried their intentions, not one could come up with a logical argument as to WHY the opposing side is wrong.

And, NO, the phrase "it's wrong because it's wrong!" is not a logical argument.

You see, from the standpoint of One Million Moms, homosexuality is a choice. If this is what you believe, then the logical assumption would be that exposure to homosexuality at a young age COULD have an impact on any sexual decision that person would make later on in life.
(not that I agree with that...)

But, all I see from the rest of you is "Why do we let them breed?" and "I hate people like that!"

So please, PLEASE, someone with an IQ above 70:
Take this as the challenge it is meant to be and form a cogent argument in favor of your position.

Or don't. Potheads. :)
Alright, I'll bite.

Let us assume that homosexuality is a choice (which for the record I do not believe). How is it right to brainwash children in one way or another? There is nothing wrong with being gay is there? The way I see it, OMM is trying to brainwash their children into heterosexuality. Forcing heterosexuality on someone, and a child of all people, is just as abhorrent. The same goes for brainwashing someone into homosexuality. From what I can see, having one (or a few) homosexual role models amongst the wealth of heterosexual role models (including the parents, which I think are some of a childs largest role models) is actually a good thing. This will allow people to make their own choices in a much more fair and balanced way.

So even if homosexuality was a choice, OMM is still in the wrong.

Now, from the argument that one is born with their sexuality, OMM is also wrong. In the world that these people want homosexuality is something to be ashamed of. This would cause adolescent homosexuals to have to supress their homosexuality which I think we can all agree is unhealthy. This can lead to depression and suicides.

So there you have it. My reasoning as to why OMM and groups like them need to go. I don't see any justification for their actions here.

I have a great a fake news release running through my head on this one;

" This just in; The Million Mothers movement comes to a crashing halt on the 'Superhero Homosexuality Crackdown'. DC Comics' president issued a statement that company has the right to print what it pleases under the protection of the First Amendment, and perhaps under the 14th Amendment under 'Corporate Personhood' has the right to sue the American Family Association (creators of the One Million Mom group) for harassing and infringing and on it's creative license, and therefore its business.

Considering OMM's moral loss in the Case of " Make Dumbledore Straight vs. Who Gives A S&!@," the group may never learn their lesson."

Why single out The Flash? I mean all of them have thights that a little to form fitting and FABULOUS. It could be anyone!
Plus, the Flash NEEDS tight clothes. Having a cape while running at that speed would be... Counter productive.

OT: Bigotry detected. Lack of nuclear assets detected in orbital launchers. Defaulting to plan B. Ignoring bigotry. Mission successful.

No, seriously...
Simple really they outnumber us but keep in mind not everyone thinks like they do. My mother is on the same boat as the moms with the state of mind while I am the complete opposite and think that there is nothing wrong with being gay.

"Because you seem to think that once someone tries it, they never go back!"

I think, deep down, these homophobes are terrified that their children will realize how narrow their views are and reject them utterly, so anything that could possibly shed light on the truth must be destroyed.
Let me ask you something, if you insult people who don't approve of homosexuality, how can you be on a higher ground?

That. That part is where I wanted to punch the speaker straight in the jaw.

I dislike everything that single sentence implies.

Do they not understand the incredible irony of thinking seeing gays will turn every child gay? How does that even work? I mean, do the children just go on to ignore the many straight characters who have girlfriends or love interests?

Also, I reckon that Flash will be the gay character. If it truly is one of their iconic characters, I think it will be him, because I doubt they would make it Batman or Superman, and that leaves only a few Iconic male characters.

Hey, wait, guys....

...could someone tell me why one of the girl superheroes can't be gay? Do they have established heterosexual relationships or what?

I also, thought flash, originally, but as one unfamiliar with DC superheroes (or many superheroes at all) I'm just raising the question.

"These companies are heavily influencing our youth by using children's superheroes to desensitize and brainwash them in thinking that a gay lifestyle choice is normal and desirable."

I don't think I need to say anything about how stupid, ignorant, moronic and outright bigoted this people are.

This will be a repeat of the Archie comics bullshit again. They'll complain, the company will carry right the fuck on no matter what the lunatics say, OMM will be publicly embarrassed again and then they'll settle down for a few months until something else happens that they can blow out of proportion.

Really, their entire argument comes from the misguided notion that outside influences can suddenly turn people gay. It's a position built on ignorance and stupidity and it really needs to fuck off.

See if you can figure out the difference here:

I insult people because of an attitude they have, things they do and stuff they say that is outwardly hostile and antagonistic.
They insult me because of an inherent part of my identity that harms nobody.

You see? That's the distinction between the two.
