Are there any bands, movie makers, game makers, etc. that amazed you with one release only to disappoint you with everything else they do? Do you keep slavishly coming back to them every time they put out something new in the hopes they'll recapture that magic you got hooked on them in the first place?

Personally, it's Pearl Jam. I love the album 10 and still listen to it regularly.. but outside of an okay song here and there, they've never done anything since that I feel measures up. Every time I hear they've got a new album coming out, though, I can't help but get excited only to get disappointed when it's not "10: Part 2"

For me it is Bethesda. Morrowind was a masterpiece. Everything since then I have found to be pretty dire, and I don't just mean dire by Morrowind standards, but dire by any standards. Oblivion was on par with Too Human in bad design decisions (conversation minigames for fuck sake!).

Peter Molyneux. Everything that he says just sounds so damn good, then when the game actually comes out its just...blah.

I forgot all about that but you are so damn right.

I remember the summer I got Driver. That game blew me away, even if the final mission was stupidly difficult. For the old PS1 it was damned impressive too. Great graphics, physics, sound, decent AI, and even replays.

I got Driver 2 on release day, and wished I was playing Driver 1 again. It wasn't all that bad, but it just wasn't quite the same. The car handling felt "blocky", there wasn't the same sensation of speed, the traffic was empty, the cities were boring, and Tanner had turned into Dirty Harry.

Then, Driv3er. Urgh. No. Just no.

EDIT: For those of you who missed Driver, here is the final mission done without taking any damage.
