I watched Naruto, and one of my friends tried to get me into One Piece. He told me it was so much better in every way. I tried to give it a shot, but then I saw how far behind I was. And all I thought was, 'Man, that's a lot of work.' Hearing this just makes me even more glad that I didn't start it.

I like my stories. I like it when things get to continue, as many manga series seem to end too soon, or don't resolve everything (Negima!, I'm looking at you!), but I also like my stories to end. While impressive no doubt, this is also nuts in my book.

But wow, 1997! That's a really long time.
Golgo 13 scoffs!

That is quite a while for a series, but it's not that far ahead of some of the more well known Shonen Jump weeklies (Bleach, Naruto). Never figured out how Manga studios can sorta keep operating like that, while the animation studios pick up the slack trying to fill time.
Both Bleach and Naruto are now finished

It's a testament to the character. Luffy is such a great likeable hero.

Two of my mates actually watch all of this show, all 800 or 900 or whatever episodes.

That was before I had to visit them in the padded cells.

OT: This bloody show started before I was born. Bloody hell.
from experience of marathon it you kind of forget the last time you ate or how much the sun had raised and set or when those cobwebs got there.

OT: I love One piece but the current arc(I think they may have finished it I haven't checked) is really stretching itself out. I hope it can kind of get back on track when it's over

ps. also if you're going to Marathon the series I would suggest actually watching the English dub(or at least what they have so far) because marathoning a sub anime like that would hurt your brain.
Dub?

Dub?

...

My mates watch the subbed the whole way through just so they can be more caught up than those who watch the dubbed. I don't even know how you do that. I love to watch shows while doing something else, but with subs you have to be watching the screen the whole time and it can distract from scenes. But no. They watched the whole thing in subbed.

I think the Australia wildlife actually just broke them one day. Suddenly they never wanted to do anything but listen to Japanese while staring a letters on a screen.

They might actually be sleeper agents, on second thought.
InB4 people ***** about Sanji eating lollipops like ciggerattes, even though I like that Idea way way way better.
I think he's talking about the Funimation dub, not the 4Kids dub.

And now I just got sick to my stomach because I remembered that the 4Kids dub existed.

If it makes you feel better Oda already has everything planned out even the end. In fact if the rumors are true, he even has a guideline for his team to follow just in case he passes away before the series ends.

No that never happened. It was just a bad fever dream.

So... He's was George R.R. Maritn before Martin did it for Game of Thrones?

OT: Is it weird that after taking a sabbatical from following this series, then coming back to it a couple of years ago at a random [dubbed] arc that wasn't filler, and then feeling like I've never taken a sabbatical in the first place? Either I ended up in the arc I left off at or it's a testament to how tight this series can be in terms of its characters?

Anyway, I can't wait until it reaches over 1000 chapters and episodes... That would be pretty awesome...

And given that he apparently only gets a couple hors sleep each day, that may unfortunately happen.
