Ok, I know allot of you here on the escapist love One Piece and it is your favorite anime ever. But I'm 60 episodes in and I can't bring myself to care for any of the characters except for Zoro. I think all of the character designs are ugly to down right atrocious. The episodes just seem to be drawn out nonsense most of the time. I've watched shonen I've enjoyed shonen but damnit I don't enjoy One Piece. So I ask you fans of the show When does it get good? I've only survived as long as I have just ignoring the out of place comedy and poor design. So what episode can I skip to so I can enjoy what it's really about?

Captcha: easy street

Watching One Piece has not been easy captcha. But hopfully it will be easy to find the good bit of it.

It's good from the start. If you hate it from the beginning it's not suddenly going to get great. Sorry to bear bad news, but you might as well accept that you've wasted about 20 hours of your life and go watch something you like.

If you don't like it after 10~15 episodes, you'll never like it. Just accept that that kind of anime isn't for you, even if it's popular.

I picked up the first four box sets from a Chinese dealer by accident, so their "English" sub is done in broken sentences. I absolutely recommend watching One Piece that way as it's absolutely hilarious.

ex. The part in the opener where he mentions he left his treasure in "One Piece", gets mistranslated to "I left my treasure... over there." like it's just off screen..

Oh, and I nearly forgot: I swear I'm not trying to be rude here, but... What kind of answer did you expect? Unless you thought...

1. ...they'd change almost every single character design after sixty episodes (and into a completely different style), or that
2. ...all us fans hated the first sixty episodes too, or that
3. ...the character writing suddenly would change...

... then I'm not sure what kind of answer you were hoping to get.

It's excellent from the beginning and excellent throughout most of it barring maybe a few episodes. I really don't know what I could tell you to make you enjoy it more...

I've loved One Piece from the beginning (though I skip filler). Basically, if you don't like it pretty much right off the bat, you won't like it. It's pretty consistent in tone and art.

Well I didn't expect the art to change (anime just don't do that) but I hoped that maybe number three would happen at some point. and I know that some people thought the series didn't get good till like episode 50 or so but damn. Guess I'm one of the few that even after watching the 4kids and the original japanese version I still don't like it. guess I'll go watch Soul Eater for the 6th time.

One Piece got really good for me around... episode two hundred. At the start of the Water Seven arc. Till then I'd just thought the series was okay, but I'm glad I pulled through. It got me to the godly arcs that are Enies Lobby and Marineford.

You better brace yourself too, the worst arc is approaching. The Alabasta Arc. *shudders at the memory*

Honestly it sound like you should just give up on it espeically if you don't like the artstyle and humor.

As to when it get good, I would say the CP9 arc (that when shit just got serious).

It doesn't change too much, if your not enjoying it now then you won't enjoy it later.

However if you feel like you could enjoy it and the problem is that it's just dragging now (which it does do a bit early on) then it picks up a bit once they break into the grand line. Be warned that the baroque works/alabaster arc drags on for a long long long long long long long long long long long time.

If you manage to watch it for 300+ episodes then it really picks up once it gets to the Water 7 arc.

I say around episode 229 or when the the Alabasta Arc ends, and the Water 7 one beings.

I think the crew actually getting onto the Grand Line is where things started getting really good.

If not there, then the Thriller Bark, Skypiea and Water 7 arcs definitely take it up a level.

But for the love of something dont subject yourself to the anime. At this point there will be well over 700 episodes by the time you catch up and 230+ hours of shounen anime really grinds on you at times when the plot isnt advancing.

Just read the manga, or take a middle route and read the manga to blitz the less interesting arcs and switch back to the anime for the better ones. The One Peice Wiki has episode/chapter references for each arc.

I was only kinda warm to it up until episode 50. Then once they reached the Grand Line, I loved it quite a bit. I'd go just a little longer to see if it grabs you (episode 80 or so) then give up if it hasn't.

I'm surprised you didn't like Nami's arc with the mermen pirates. That was heart-wrenching!

Seriously, I thought that the Alabasta arc was one of the strongest arcs but the Skypeia arc can pretty much die in a fire however

I don't really care for One Piece either. I watched about 20 episodes and decided that the show wasn't serious enough for me.

That's kind of what I was like, except not so judgmental. The style was fine and interesting, but it was too childish with most other things (especially the comedy).

I got up to episode 80 I think, where they just defeated the wax guy, and I was really disappointed with everything in that arc. Best moments was with the Mermen and their downfall.

Though I was thinking of looking into it again because I saw some of the later episodes that are awhile away from where I stopped and they were more interesting and had better humour. I saw the arc where the main crew had tournament games with another large fleet of pirates where if they won they could pick any of their opponents to join their gang. They were fun episodes, what number are those?

Of my friends who got interested, the ones who did liked a particular arc. That, then got interested in the characters, enough to see how they operated in other arcs.

Not that it matters. You sound like you wanted to prove to someone that you wouldn't like it. Now you want to prove to all of us that it's not good. With it's "out of place comedy and poor design" But obviously a lot of people think One Piece is a fun time.

"I've watched Shonen." I guess you wanted something you were used to? Then watch that. I wouldn't call this that. I would call this comedy with a shonen skin.

Comedian Brian Regan gives a good impersonation of the vibe the OP is giving me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27LzPvvpqHY

I thought Skypiea was the worst. Just padding after padding.

But yeah, Water 7/CP9 is the best point of the series.
