Those characters look pretty good to me. With flamingo there maybe his coat's a bit flamboyant but beyond that he looks human. And the other dude looks intimidating, sure its basically a fat clown in black but look at him he's a damn nightmare clown from hell. Where do guys like that show up? see that's what I'm talking about you have guys that look intimidating while also looking cartoonish later on in the show. Doflamingo shows up early, but doesn't encounter Luffy until just now. Moria is pretty deep in the series. But it sounds like you're suffering from shitty filler ruining a context that the author was trying to set up. Other people in the thread seem to be suggesting CP9/water seven, but all of this, I think, will be enjoyed more if you like the characters. To be honest, I'd say it starts getting good upon entry into the grand line, and you're almost there if you got to episode 60. I think just pull through, and when the giant whale shows up, you'll know shit has started hitting fans, and you're no longer in a filler arc.God said:

Personally I prefer the Manga, or the Subbed Anime.

I can only speak from my experience in reading the manga, really. I assume the anime falls into the same general patterns, not accounting for filler and padding.
Honestly, I had to force myself through One Piece, not really because it is bad per se, but because my enjoyment of its individual arcs seems ridiculously inconsistent.
I remember feeling bored to tears by the early series, at least until it reached the part where they recruit Sanji. That part of the arc was pretty cool. The Grand Line should be where things really pick up, but frankly, the Drum Island, Alabasta, and (dear God Almighty) the Davy Back segment all bored me to tears. But none of those can compare to the nightmare that was the Skypeia arc. I was so jaded by then that I didn't even make it to the Enies Lobby arc... which is supposed to be great.
Instead, I skipped ahead to Impel Down, which I actually enjoyed. And then the timeskip hit and we were faced with the Fishman Island arc which... I have mixed feelings about.

OP... it's on Toonami, RIGHT NOW, they're fighting CP9, RIGHT. NOW. So atm until the Impel Down Arc, One Piece is actually worth watching. Otherwise you should drop it if you're not having a good time because yes, the anime is dreeeeeeeadful. Manga to a far less extent for obvious reasons already given.
