The guy looks and dresses like an older, handsome modern day version of Link. I call hallucination.

No seriously. Erin's hallucinations were brought on by the head trauma from the accident and the stress of working as a video game journalist. The hallucinations (namely Link) are there because they want her to be "happy" and find the joy in games rather than all the stress.

But the stress has now shifted to the dreaded relationship troubles of feeling awkward about Mol dating Elliot and now being alone as her friends now hate her, therefore the hallucination has also shifted to accommodate her by giving her a sexy guy who seems to say all the right things almost immediately afterward.
