As it's part of the 8th grade (I think) we have an assignment about "health." While some said they would see if teeth (yes, teeth) were related to some healthiness, I chose "how videogames affect health." I said to them that I could be able to get some information about it here but I also needed to see it from the other side, like ones who critisize it. And I chose to use www.jackthompson.org to that.

Could anyone spare some help with this?

Look into child obesity, see how many of them play video games. Or just World of Warcraft.

Unfortunately it has to fill five to ten pages, so I will save those for later.

You could always look into stress issues from games, WoW used to stress me out something fierce before I gave it up.

Yeah, such things are always fun to talk about.

But there must be other examples of it than WoW.

This is still WOW related but anyway why don't you look into death by WOW there have been several deaths likes to WOW.

http://www.joystiq.com/2005/11/04/wow-online-funeral-commemorates-death-of-young-gamer/

But there are also the social effects of games that one must look at when considering the implication of games.

Google for recorded Counterstrike Vent channels, people get a little bit "irate" playing that. Oh, and I just heard my house mate yelling something about "God damned GRENADES!!!" while playing CoD4, might be worth looking at that too

EDIT: In relation to above, I've heard of more than one korean CS clan having REAL LIFE gunfights with other clans. Several were killed in a shootout in an internet cafe I read at some point.

A story of the Wii being integrated into a PE program:

A story on losing weight through gaming (I'm totally serial!):

GTA is an often-used example for the effects of gaming, and one could argue that psychological health is just as important as physical health. If you look up Hilary Clinton's campaign, you'll find that she is also against most video games as well, so you can use other sources than Jack Thompson. I would recommend this because of Thompson's issue with staging legal protests. Clinton is going to be a more reliable source in your teacher's eyes than Thompson.

I heard Thompson's looking at getting Disbarred for 10 years from somewhere (can't remember where), so using him as a source might be a bit of a iffy move.

EDIT: http://uk.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/grandtheftauto4/news.html?sid=6192091 thats the fella

Stress levels in online FPS's would be good, you only have to hear the shouting to see the potential there.

Plus there's the issues of potential increaseed weight against increased hand-eye coordination.

Be interesting to see if there's been any (extreme) cases where people have got arthritis, or maybe even DVT (it's possible...).

Not sure this quite fits in with your topic, but you could do some stuff where people in RL are killed/attacked over issues in-game. This dude in Japan leant a good sword to his friend in an online game, the friend sold it (for actual money), and the dude killed him!

Could also see if too much time spent staring at a screen is bad for your eyes, and possibly whether it increases reflex reaction times. And possibly, although milder, cases of cramping/RSI.

I'm done now :p

Contrary to popular belief, most WoW addicts lose weight while playing. They eat less because play so much WoW. I would know, I gained about 5 pounds after I quit.

at least no one said Obama, he's made some seemingly anti-video game comments HOWEVER they were more comments about doing things as a family rather than letting the kids play video games all the time.

there's been a couple other congressmen both federal and state lvl that have tried to pass laws about it, most of the laws get struck down due to first amendment breaches

if you talk about the ratings, you might want to draw parallels to the MPAA since both ESRB and MPAA are industry regulated and run, not government, in other countries it's different tho
