Although it does seems interesting, have a small spectrum of doubt if they are going to be successful, as Ensemble's Previous games (AoE3, Halo Wars) weren't that good.

But it may be good.

My thoughts:
After reading the article: Oh Wow.. that is awesome.
After Watching the Video: Oh no... that looks like balls.

The cartooney style is cool but it does not suit AOE.

"Well", I thought, "I've always wanted to see an MMORTS that didn't suck, and I've always loved Age of Empires. Maybe this will be awesome!"

...and then I watched the video. I'm sorry, but you're not going to get the farmville casuals to play Age of Empires by telling them they can build a city with their friends. RTS is a hardcore genre, and you can't change that without ripping its soul out. I'm not one to bash casual gaming like many on this site, I don't care if they want to make games for casuals but for the love of god don't put the name Age of Empires on it.

I think I now understand how all those old Star Wars fans feel about the new movies....

It looks passable in all regards except for Games for Windows Live. There is no good that can come from using that service. It's a hassle to use and completely obtrusive. Also, the cartoony art style is fantastic. Glad they didn't go for a <url=http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DarkerAndEdgier?from=Main.GrimDark>GrimDark look instead.
And I return from that accursed site. Damn you.
OT: I declare this game as rape of the franchise.

I expected to feel very excited or very disappointed about the future of the Age of Empires series. But this doesn't look like AoE at all. My feelings are just as neutral as they would be if this title represented a completely new IP. I guess the soul of AoE isn't coming back.

If everything good about Age of Kings and Mythology were the soap, the AOE series has just dropped it. I can't say anything for AOE3 having not played it (I just do not like that time period), but where did they get that stupid direction?!? Now what good RTS is left for that type of gameplay and those time periods?

But at least we can take solace in that everyone with an Xbox or PS3 is lining up for the VAST array of RTS on consoles because of Halo Wars. seriously, thank you Microsoft, good move instead of more Age of Empires goodness. Ensemble Studios probably disbanded out of shame after being a pawn in Microsoft's Halo milking.

The art is better than CUBE [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aGDCE6Nrz0] but not much else.

Will give it a chance since I do miss AoE a fair bit and if it will fight off my urge to return to runescape then so be it!

Ugh. All the GFWL hate for no reason. Damn Microsoft for supporting their own platform. Damn them for trying, after everyone complains they are ignoring PC games. Damn them for want to bring back one of the most iconic franchises ever.

Anyway, this is a free game. You really don't have anything to lose. Maybe after you actually use GFWL you will see it is great.

This game has nothing to do with Farmville. It is nothing like it. The gameplay is exactly the same as the previous Age of Empires, with a little extra added in. The units are upgradeable. You have a capital city that your friends can visit, trade with, and buy from. The capital is optional, if you choose not to use it. It is called 'Online' because people can interact with your city while you are gone or offline. Your capital cannot be attacked. PvP multiplayer is still present. You still build a base and an army in missions. This game contains a co-op mode for 95% of the missions. Also, again, it is free. Premium content will be released later, and it will consist of 'expansion pack' like packages. Microsoft and Robot aren't looking to nickle and dime anyone.

Sorry for the wall of text.

I doubt the former Ensemble Studios people like this at all. Age of Empires was serious, this is not. This is a joke.
Actually, Robot Entertainment is consisted of 75% former Ensemble members. They are working on this game themselves.

This is confusing me. Looks fun enough, I guess, but when I think of Age of Empires, this is not what I think of.

This is a bit like an X-COM sequel turning out to be a stylized first person shooter set in the 50s.

This is not an age of empires game. Not at all.

I have no problem with new games being made, but for fluck's sake don't blaspheme older series just to sell your new thing.

It's like they're destroying everything precious to me...

WHAT THE FUCK. Is with that artstyle. WHAT THE FUCK. What, are you trying to make it accessable and 'friendly' or some shit? Goddamnit. Stop desecrating the already ridiculed corpse of Ensemble Studios.

Surely sprites are easier to make, run, and wouldn't make you feel like you're playing spore?
Your words ring true with me, that is just [expletive], [expletive], ARRRGGHHH!!!!
... [expletive]
It looks terrible in art alone, like Age of Nickelodeon with silly graphics and all this "curviness" that runs amok. Was the concept art drawn in crayon?!? The persistent online aspect is an interesting idea for maybe a portion of a true Age of... games, but to me it just screams "eh" for the main premise of a new game. Looks like I'll be sticking with Age of Kings and Mythology, so good day, Microsoft... [expletive]s.
To be honest, a game that looks like it was drawn in crayon sounds pretty awesome. I could see it looking like a Firth animation:
Except crayon rather than just colour fill. I think it'd be pretty awesome. But yeah, Mockery of Empires needs to find a new art style or be shunned by all but the most forgiving.

looks good but what if you have some RTS master on your server who wipes the floor with everyone and practically rules every city?
I plan to, just that the art style turns me off. But think of all the incompetent kids that'd be playing...
A game drawn in crayon would be great if done right.
Whats that weird little one with the robots? Machiniarium or something? Apparently thats hand drawn and awesome.

As for Salad Fingers...screw you man, I felt like sleeping tonight. : D

Heads-up: it's made by a team consisting of almost all the same people.

After doing some research, it really is the same game. Yay, I suppose, but I WANT AGE OF MYTHOLOGY TWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
