ok, for one, I don't know if this topic has been asked before... But, eh, live and learn...

But I just have a question for you escapists....

When you go to youtube or even on here, to watch a video and a commercial pops up... What is your course of action?
I mean, do you mute it, change tabs, use another program...?
What...?

Also, BECAUSE there is a commercial getting in the way, do you get any second judgements on the product...
Eg.

Whenever I go to watch any video on here, I usually end up on a commercial for a moisturiser or something.... So, I go out of my way to ignore that brand because it got in my way...

So, does anyone else have this sort of gripe? or is it just me...

for here, I'm PubClub so I'm unaffected. :p

Elsewhere, muting it takes seconds so not too big of an issue.

I put up with them so long as they are not too obtrusive. I don't consider a short ad infront of a video to be intrusive, but the big flash adds that fill half your screen certainly are.

Firefox + ad blocker = no commercials but you do get to see the movieclips.

So I'll ask you rethorically, 'what commercials man?'

Yeah, I kinda accept ads need to be there to pay for the content, in the end, the Channel 4 site, 4OD, lets me watch every episode of every season of a ton of comedy shows, and I'm quite happy to deal with 3 30 sec ads at the start and halfway thru for the option of being able to choose where and when I watch.

If the ad is relevant I can tolerate it. Advertising is just part of life. With The Escapist though I get ads for companies I've never heard of and will never have the opportunity to use even if I wanted to. That's even if I can work out what they're about. That kind of stuff annoys me because it's a waste of time for everyone.

Depends on the ad. For videos, if it's not too annoying, I'll have something up on my screen and let it play. If it's annoying, I'll mute it.

Would really like it if they normalised the audio of the ad to that of the video so the ads aren't overly loud on some vid series.
Also would like a limiter so if you've seen an ad three times in one day, it won't show you it again, for at least 8 hours. If I wasn't interested the first time, I'm certainly not interested the 5th time I see it either.
