Everyone's experienced it once, being a newbie but it seems to be some sort of inherint instinct to hate on newbies.

When I first played MAG and got to play some of the bigger maps, some of the other palyers apparently thought I wasn't worthy of playing in the same game as them and tried to kick me out of the match.

Why do people hate on newbies? Everyone was one eventually, why not help them rather than hate on them?

The same issue arises now that Team Fortess 2 is free to play and there is a rush of new players (myself included and I hope it's worth the space it's taking up on my desktop).

Well, if there's someone on your team, wouldn't you want them to know what they're doing so you can watch their back and they watch yours, rather than you having to babysit them?

Then again, I don't really have anything against newbs. It's when I'm dealing with noobs, I really get pissed.

I don't have a problem with people who have just started and don't know what they're doing, then again I don't play any games where I have to play with people below my level in expertise.
However, dealing with long time players who still act like it's their first time is incredibly annoying. Stupid people shouldn't play. My main problem is people who don't listen, if you don't know what you're doing ASK and LISTEN. Don't just do whatever you feel like and fail.
And most people play games to have 'fun', whatever that means, and it's not fun to have someone who doesn't know what they're doing tagging along. People forget they were once in your position, just like adults seem to forget they were once children.

I don't mind newbies. I often enjoy helping people new to a game. I'm currently a newbie to EVE Online right now... I ask for guidance and get trolled =\ I'd often see new players asking for help in WoW back when I played (legitimate questions) and so many people would feed them false information and such.... I would usually send them a message warning them it.

Elitism, people don't like to admit that they once came into the online community scared and alone, they also probably think that they have "mastered the game" so why should they have to put up with some nub.
However, there's nothing worse than being stuck in a random team who can't /won't do anything, so if you're playing with someone at level 1, chances are they will be just like that.

End of it all, people are dicks.

Only newbies I dislike are the ones who troll or are arrogant. The rest don't bug me at all. We all start somewhere.

The only noobs i hate are incompetent noobs ... if a noob genuinely wants to do good, only asks questions at appropriate times and is fun to play with then awesome!

The noobs i like the best are the ones that do their research prior to gaming, don't ask stupid questions and you can steadily see them getting better with every round .. THOSE NOOBS MAKE ME PROUD!!

Personally I don't mind new people at all. Usually it's the old ones, or certain new ones, who irk me. Playing Codex in Rift last night was an excellent example of the ones who bug me:

Guy: "Get Codex!"
*3 minutes pass where we desperately try and hold a resource node or two and fight to GET to Codex*
Guy: "wtf is wrong with you guys! GET THE CODEX!!!! Hold Codex and statue and we win!"
Me: "Yeah, we're working on that, champ. Execution's different than planning."
Guy: "what are you doing over there?! GET THE F***ING CODEX!!!"
Me: "I got three people trying to take this statue."
Guy: "GET THE CODEX, NOOB!"

Needless to say we lost. I haven't encountered this quite as much as I used to in Battlegrounds on WoW. But it's just a pain. I'd rather take new players, who can usually be directed to do the right thing because typically they KNOW they're new players, than a bunch of people who have played before and know the theory on how to win and have seen it work, so they obsess on theory without adapting to current conditions.

Its the same people who are wineing about TF2 being free. Being a newbie is nothing bad being a BAd player is bad.If your a newbie people asume youll suck because you have no exspernce witch this comes from little kids and teenagers who need the p*** beaten out of them sence there could form a cinacle though.

There's people who just started the game. And then there's 12 year old smacktards who don't know two bits about gaming or teamwork yet pretend to be "pro". Sorry, newb's can go screw themselves. Learn the games, play along and don't you dare whine when we slap you for being a smacktard.

Yeah that sounds very elitist but I cant stand when some halfwit runs infront of me when im layin down suppressive fire, effectivley cutting him in half and then having him cry about it.

I'm happy to show newbies around and teach them what to do.

If, after some lessons, they are still puke-inducingly bad, I crush their egos for having wasted my time.

It depends what kind of game these newbies are in. In a game like Call of duty or MAG newbies can singlehandedly lose a game for you . Now in a game like WoW , newbies can screw up a dungeon or group quest and potentially a raid , but they will only learn from experience and should be thought.

This is a false statement , if your among the first people to play a game upon release , then you cannot be considered a newbie :)

I don't mind beginners really, their learning the game like everyone else has. It annoys me when people in a game rag on them for being noobs and sometimes it annoys me to the point I defend them but then people go into online troll mode 'lololusuckatthisgamenoobfaglulz'. The funny thing about these people is that generally they aren't even very good at the game.

What does annoy me is a noob who won't shut up about how 'awesome' the features are in the game. I remember playing Call of Duty 4 once and a kid wouldn't stop saying things like 'OMG you get a knife in this game! Guys do you see this! OMG!'

That's when they get annoying.

It depends on the nature of the game.
If it is a team game and one weak link can lose you the game (eg, MOBA's) people will be unhappy when you're the weak link.

Quoted for truth

Also, MAG is just like that, people want prime people on their squad, and most often I see people get kicked for ignoring the squad leader.

Brings to mind the phrase most repeated on that game.

"Useless blue dots"

I like playing with new people because 1) they aren't mean and jaded, 2) they listen to me because I'm nice when I explain things, 3) I enjoy helping people. I ran around with a new player in Diablo II for over an hour (I was level 60) showing him how to fight, where to get loot, where quests were, and it was the most fun I had playing with a stranger.
Same thing playing Nazi zombies and helping people get all the trophies, or Resident Evil finding all the treasures and emblems.

Even if you're among the first, you're a newbie. The only way you're NOT a newbie is if you were on the team that MADE the game.

And even then it's unfair to say because then you would've been with the game from day one learning all potential tricks and secrets of the game.
