There's one more kind of game without which my collection - without which *I* - cannot be whole: a tactical turn-based combat game, genre Wasteland 2, Jagged Alliance, X-Com: Enemy Unknown etc, but online and PvP.

Anyone know any good ones? But of course. I await agog.

Well, the new XCOM games do have multiplayer. I rather doubt anyone is still playing though. My total experience was one laggy match where my opponent bailed after I got a decent flank.

There's Atlus Reactor, but that's more like a turn-based MOBA. Looks pretty nifty actually, but the aesthetics weren't to my taste.

The upcoming game, Battletech , will have a strong multiplayer focus.

Basically, it's a tactical, turn-based combat game with customizable, giant robots.

And if you suddenly find yourself really interested, the multiplayer beta starts this weekend.

Some of the gamesworkshop titles do this. Mordheim and bloodbowl. I guess bloodbowl is technically a sport but its highly tactical.

If anything Blood Bowl is faster and more fluid than actual American Football.

I've never actually played it but from what I've seen of the EU multiplayer it was TERRIBLE. There were random syncing issues that led to super awkward bugs - sometimes you wouldn't be able to move an unit or shoot with them or perhaps open doors. Other times the line of sight is thoroughly fucked - two units can stare at each other and one can see the opponent, the other cannot. Or one might be able to see through a wall, for example. Overwatches turn the previous situation up to eleven - someone may be able to take a shot at something that's completely impossible or be unable to see something obvious.

I don't know if XCOM 2 does any better.

Well the biggest problem with that is that there niche game and the population dry up very quickly. Most of them are F2P with some pretty pay too win element.

I haven't played too many, but you can try duelyst.

Have you tried Atlas Reactor?
https://www.atlasreactorgame.com/en/

I haven't tried it myself yet but I hear it's good and it's turned based PvP goodness and it's free to play.

*sees it was mentioned earlier if typo'd*

So...
1) Player versus Player
2) Online
3) (Highly?) Tactical
4) Turn Based

Have you tried Chess?

Isn't Civilisation multiplayer?
It is. No clue how it works in MP, though.

And Tropico?
Also has multiplayer and I also have no experience with it. Still, I do know it is not turn based. And I don't really know how PvP it is. I mean, it's not a "traditional" (if you can call it that) PvP where you try to destroy your opponent - since the game centres around economy, I know that some of the victory conditions are just based on that.

Xcom 2 definitely is, but I never tried it out.
Same. As I mentioned previously, XCOM: Enemy Unknown was actually pretty terrible in multiplayer. Dunno if the sequel is any better.
