There is no way i can keep playing an online shooter for hours on end.
There is only so many times you can have the highest deaths and least kills in your team at the same time and not give up :p

thanks to mw2 i have pretty much given up on competative gameplay completely. I'm stickin with games that i can relax with at the same time as enjoy, ano ones without the screaming 12 year olds and people who think i want to hear about their lives

If i'm having a bad streak i just quit after the round, and as long as i'm up in 1/3 of the players i'll be happy and i usually achieve that within a decent amount of "training".

I allays wanted to be pro on Warcraft3 ^^ but i checked pro gamers APM and compared with mine... then I found out how much they play... I decided to forget WC3 as it would take too much time... I don't even have enough time to improve my chess skills :/ now I only play single player stuff.

Yea i mean its always fun saying your the best then proving it over a game or two but when games go to far such as MW2 in competitiveity then some thing is amiss compititaion is good for fun but if it gets out of hand it stops being fun somewhere along the line after the first 300 you are a morron insults just because you didnt getthat last kill with nothing but spit or when you throw your keybored at the moniter or when you get camped and can't actually play the game since the other team takes thegame way to fucking much and have to camp your spawn i get a game to play it not watch the gorey annimation of a wolf rippign my head off for the 500th billion time though its always fun to uzi them.

and then when you actually get them out of your spawn and wipe them up with the flame thrower and shotguns while the use wolf and snipers and then they start calling yo a noob cause you are better with explosives

i digress my point is thus if even one player takes a game to seruiosly then yea the entire match could be ruined

But when many players take it to far and are the majority of the community then yea the game is doomed and that my friends is how new mmofps always come out to reset the status quo

This is EXACTLY why I love co-op so much! It's human interaction without having to be better than anyone. This usually leads to a lot less frustration for me, and I can be competitive if I feel like it by watching the kills. I can play with my bros and not call em hoes (for beating me). Win-win for me.

But, I still like multiplayer for the thrill of getting that killstreak with that pimp reward and competing with my friends. I get frustrated a bit too easily though, I'm still working on that. :p

Yeah. When you die in a game, don't scream at teammates that the other guy was a cheap hacker like 95% of people on CoD.

I suck at CoD, and I'm proud of it. But I still kill those bastards that think they're so badass.

That's why I hate CoD, the community sucks.

Well not really, to me competitive gameplay is what i enjoy, constantly trying to be better than everyone else not just in shooters but in WoW as well (back when i played). I play multiplayer games to have good frantic fun and to compete, i play single player games to relax and go at my own pace. There's something to enjoy in both types of game.
I've got to agree. I play games like Oblivion and Far Cry 2 to relax, and then games like Halo 3 and Team Fortress 2.

The last three months I've bought only single-player games, like Mirror's Edge, Prince of Persia and Red Faction: Guerillia. It's been massive fun, but now that I've bought Modern Warfare 2 I'm getting frustrated when everything moves too fast for me. This week I've been playing MW2 a lot and now I'm getting back into the 'zone'

I can enjoy both. Yet it takes a few days to really enjoy single-or multiplayer.

If you're experiencing stress while playing a game, you may as well stop gaming, because you're missing the point. I agreee that if this is the case, you should stop, look at yourself disapprovingly, and dick around with some friends in a private game.

I do find myself getting that way as well. I do, after a while, turn off the game and play something else, but I don't really get competitive. However, I do get stressed.

I used to play for fun, but nowadays, in CoD4, now that my killstreak is 1.10 (8000 kills, 7300 deaths approximately), I HATE getting a negative KD ratio. It rarely happens anymore, but when it does it annoys the crap out of me.

I also hate it when it seems like ALL the low level newbie players are on my team, and all the hardcore 10th prestige players are on the other team. It's even worse when the other team is comprised of only ONE CLAN. You know you're screwed when that happens (as I heard on another thread, they might as well say "Welcome to Bumrape Boulevard").

Okay I'm ranting now, but back OT, when I do even moderately well in a game, I enjoy it alot, but when I do bad, I hate myself.

Nope, I love that damn place. I'll sometimes just throw on F3 and not bother with any missions, just so I can wander around and watch the sunset over a ruined motorway.

This is so true...

I have had the highest K/D ratio in almost every game I have played in MW2 recently, getting all kinds of skulls and shit telling me I did well, but for some reason I'm now not satisfied unless I'm top of every game as well. Where does it end?

It's quite ridiculous... damn developers expoilting my obsessive compulsive nature... :D

(I play very conservatively and move from cover to cover carefully so it's easy to get a good ratio)

I think I'm a fairly competitive person, but not over competitive. I enjoy online gaming as long as I'm in the top half of games. I just need to know that I did pretty well and I'm happy enough and not stressed out. However, I'll freely admit there are times when I'll get very irritated, that's not purely online though.

I have yet to see defeat.
You lose "mentally" when you get irritated. Screamers, Fratboys, and Storytellers will always be out to kill your brain cells.

Not sure if it means you're missing the point, simply briefly forgetting it in the adrenalin fuelled compulsion to get better.

Single player can be a torturous slog sometimes too but we put ourselves through it for the reward (BLIP- achievement unlocked: Mile High Club)

I made this realization long ago, so yeah whenever Halo 3 or CoD4 pissed me off too much I just liked to waste time makign stuff and experimenting in Forge while also enjoying the hilarious ragdoll physics in CoD4's Classic mode.
