For the non British people, only fools and horses is a British comedy which starred David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst and ran from 1981 to 2003.

Though it has seem to have taken some time but the abc's original idea's committee found it.
"The ABC network is to make a pilot US version of the British show"
I just don?t know how to react to this news, probably curled in a corner cuddling teddy crying and telling myself that everything going to be alright.
Ok on a serious note there is a chance that this might end up good, but if not let just hope its only a pilot or at the very least use a different name.
This is actually a point if you are going to remake something for the us market could you please call is something else, not cause its disrespectful to the source material but you going to have endless amount of people going on about it not better than it source, i mean you have had that with every single US remake and guys it getting annoying.
But anyway the premise of the show if The two brothers try futile attempts to become millionaires through questionable get rich quick schemes, now if you are American that might sound like the honeymooners, then if America already has a show like it why do they insist of remaking the UK version, its not that I?m overly protective of the UK show but surely wouldn?t it be more culturally relevant to remake the honeymooners(the film doesn?t count).
But my prattling wont change a thing abc are going to go ahead with this, but I?m just hoping it doesn?t get past the pilot.
Is any one actually excited by a US remake of only fool and horses?

There are some TV shows that just don't need a remake, especially from another country. This is one of them. You just don't fuck with Only Fools and Horses. This is insulting.

EDIT: I'm now going to use this thread as an excuse to post a clip from the show

Well considering how the majority of American remakes of British shows i've seen have been garbage I can see many many ways how this will end badly. I really wish we'd actually try and come up with some original ideas instead of just remaking anything that was remotely popular at some point in time.

But the U.S. studios won't get the subtle things in the characters that make the whole thing work. They never do.

The point of these type of British comedy shows is that there is no hero there is no relatable everyman, no handsome, smart protagonist the audience are supposed to root for. Del is a fool, Rodney is spineless, they are ugly, stupid, unempathetic trash that try to get ahead by bringing everyone else down. That's their characters in a nutshell, and the brilliance of the British writers is making us care about these awful people. We laugh when they get their comeuppance, because it serves the twats right, but we also cheer when they succeed, because we see the hardship of their lives and the hand fate has dealt them. So many British shows base their whole characterisation around this idea, and American studios never get it right. Rodney will be made a tragic hero, played by some beautiful young actor, and Derek turned into his comedic foil, or the other way round. They just cannot do our humour because they try to shoehorn in relatable characters and American values. Please Stop America, please!

EDIT: also this is relevant:

Somebody has to stop this surely? I'm just waiting for them to start on the likes of Blackadder and that now. And I will go cry in a corner :(

This is REALLY SCARY. I am actually scared about the release of this.

...not really. I don't think I will be watching it anyways, I might look for a clip or something though.

I'm lost for words, only Fools and Horses is quintessentially British, and that's it's charm. Making an American remake of it would be like making Eastenders in Calfornia, or Coronation Street in New York, it just doesn't work.

Yo Americans, you can take Red Dwarf, you can take Doctor Who, but you can't take our only Fools and Horses, you just can't.

Overwise, any decent British person will see this as a real act of war, as it is one of our most treasured programs.

By treasured, I mean everyone over the age of 15 in England has seen at least one episode in their lifetime.[small] I still prefer Black Books, and a few other to it though, but only fools and horses is, and will always be top tier when it comes to British comedies.[/small]

My favourite Only Fools and Horses scene, cracks me up. How the writers made a simple game of Monopoly, very funny and witty, I'll never know.

What a 42 carat plonker you really are ABC!

Only Fools and Horses was comedy perfection beloved by all. It does not need to remade or improved upon.

I mean really how can you improve on this.

Oh F**K no.

I'm just glad they haven't touched Blackadder.

...yet. ;_;
Don't even joke about that. For the love of god, an American Blackadder would NOT WORK. However, if it was a Blackadder series set during the War of Independence, and Edmund, George, Baldrick and Melchett were soldiers in the British Army, then that would be awesome.

OFAH is too British, it will never work as an American show. But at least its ABC so if the pilot is crap they'l reject it, not NBC who would make it anyway just to take the piss.

Leave Only Fools and Horses alone. There is no way this could ever work. The best thing about OFAH was that it so English. How could you possibly translate that over in America.......Loathe......Hate.
