It came out yesterday in Europe (and probably Australia but to game publishers that's one region anyway) and it's pretty good. There's some screenshots and a video at WiiWare World [http://www.wiiware-world.com/games/wiiware/onslaught] if you haven't seen them yet.

It's not exactly a smart game, you won't find much in terms of intelligent story or smart AI (though I didn't see the AI allies have any issues, maybe that's because you have to turn very fast to even see them before they hide behind you again), it' pretty much about fighting the titular Onslaught of enemies. If screenshots don't have much going on that's probably because most of them seem to be in the first level. There's online play, coop and competitive monster hunting but no deathmatch (I don't think they could have fit deathmatch maps into the download size, there's plenty of content already).

It's not very pretty and the announcements you get for certain combo levels are pretty repetitive but IMO they're not really annoying because I've learned to ignore them quickly. Doesn't really matter, the game's about shooting mutated bugs in large numbers (not quite as large as EDF). Speaking of EDF, while that worked with its imprecise controls (dual analog aiming) by making enemies so gigantic you don't need precision aiming Onslaught goes the opposite route, since Wiimote aiming is very precise you're expected to hit green glowing parts on the enemies and doing that from the front can require quite some precision (they're usually on the sides or back of the enemy so if you attack from the side they're much easier to hit). Well, you can just shoot the main body of the enemies but that takes much longer so you'll want to pull as many "headshots" as you can.

The controls work fine, only doubletapping the analog stick requires some practice to get right consistently but you don't really have to do it to stay alive.

Overall it's pretty visible that the game was designed with limited "disk" space but it works out fine, the singleplayer mode takes maybe 3-4 hours to simply play through once but there are five difficulty levels (two unlockable), 2 improvement levels for every weapon that have to be unlocked (for SP and coop, the game's so fair it doesn't require unlocking in ranked matches), ranks for every mission (no idea if getting S ranks everywhere does anything though), highscore tables and online multiplayer so there's a lot of stuff to do in the game. It won't dethrone any big retail games but fills a fairly large and empty niche. Why does the Wii have so few FPSes anyway? Then again this is supposedly the first original FPS (i.e. not a port/remake of a retail game) for any download service on any console... Not sure how true that is, I read it somewhere.

The game doesn't seem to get much attention on the internet yet because it's not released in the US... Anyone want to bet when it'll cross the pond?

"Enjoy the rush of mowing down wave after wave of aliens with machine guns, grenades, and more. Feel your heart pound as you battle gigantic boss aliens."

Does anyone here ever get a rush when they shoot Aliens in video games? Or can feel their heart pounding? Honestly?

Depends on the difficulty, difficult final bosses make me feel like that and sometimes difficult mid-game parts too but many recent games just aren't hard enough for it (then again one of the first bosses I felt like that against was Bowser from SMW so I guess it has to do with my own skill level too). Onslaught can get pretty hard occassionally though I haven't reached the final boss yet.
