One of my favorite, if not my favorite outright, PC shooters of all time. I'm sure many of you are aware this is coming and I'm incredibly excited. It's still a year off but I figured I'd start up a thread to talk about the first game and talk about the second as well because I hope that new news will be breaking soon.
We haven't heard anything since e3. So, discuss away and in the mean time, read this IGN preview

I loved the first one as well although I thought it was too hard at times. I remember a mission were I had to sneak out of some forest while there were tanks patrolling at all sides. I managed to to it in the end but it pushed my patience to the limit.

I can only hope it has the depth of the original, which is still head-and-shoulders above most of the stuff on the market today. And there had better be an FDFMod for it.

A brilliant game, well designed, well produced. Lets hope the second is as good.

Yeah, I can't wait until Operation Flashpoint 2 comes out either. I'll probably get it for the 360 though, I'm starting to get out of PC gaming. Hope the console version is good.

Also, ArmA 2 comes out sometime next year. That will be worth a look if you like OF.

OFP was great, but I'm a little reserved about the second as it's not by BI. Though ARMA wasn't too bad.

My prediction is ARMA2 > OFP2. But I think OFP will try to appeal to a slightly less "hardcore" crowd ;)

Thats a shame, one of the best things about Flashpoint was the modding. I would never consider getting this for xbox or PS3. I've already been reading that the console versions are slightly cut down.
Yeah, I agree the ability to get mods and design your own levels was awesome. I think it might be possible on the consoles, but it's made for the PC.

And harhol, good point, since it's the same team that made Opflash (right?) ARMA is on my watch list too.

It was the mods that kept me playing OFP for years and years after its release. Especially once OFP:Resistance came out and threw a gigantic bucket of tools to the mod community. Some of the mods were really fantastic; BWMod, Invasion1944, Liberation41-45, the various products from BAS, and my all-time favorite, FDFMod.

I am concerned about what may become of OFP 2. There will naturally be some shortfalls since it is being developed for consoles as well as the PC. this could pan out one of 2 ways.

1. It's being developed mainly for the PC with a planned port to consoles. - This means the game will be streamlined and the realism of the first will most likely be maintained. The controls will be optimized for keyboards and mice making movement realistic and easy to control. The graphics will be top-notch, and it is less likely that Codemasters will have to dumb it down to accomodate the limited power of a console.

2. It's being developed for consoles with a planned port to PC. - This would likely result in a lot of features being removed so as to accomodate the limited controls of a console controller. It would also be likely that the realism would be diminished as well. Graphics would be ok at best, and it would be a shadow of what the original was. We all know how well OFP: Elite for Xbox went over...
