This is a fan based movement aiming to get Bayonetta 2 to sell about a million copies by spreading awareness of it through social media using #OperationPlatinum and word of mouth I think. The secondary aim of this is to show mature games have a place on the Wii U as long as they are done properly therefore counteracting Ubisoft's statement the Wii U owners don't buy mature games. Whether they do or don't is up to interpretation but I do support this movement to help bring a game bigger audience and show Platinum Games (also Nintendo) that Wii U owners appreciate the work they have put in and it wasn't wasted.

Um......OK?

I'm sure Platinum games is ecstatic that their fans are willing to market for them but I'm not sure what you want us to talk about here.

Also, what if it sucks? It seems awfully premature to try to get a game that isn't released yet to sell over a million copies...

Premature yes and also ambitious. Also I think this is a way for people to give companies like Activision, Ubisoft etc a look at how much a game that has been properly made and marketed ( although in this case marketed by Bayonetta fans and Wii U owners) can prosper on the Wii U.

The discussion I had in mind was probably how everyone felt about this movement. In my opinion it probably won't reach Operation Rainfall levels but they can least try.

Don't tell me Nintendo's marketing is so bad the fans now have to do all the work.

Not really, I need only look at Ubisoft's statement to know how pubs "truly feel" about Nintendo players, it's not Nintendo they are trying to market for, it;s them trying to tell ubisoft that yes they like mature games and yes they want them without telling them to fuck off like most do in a petition to wanting a game from said company like I've seen on many a petition website.

regardless of Nintendo marketing you will still get pubs like Activision that won't port over mature games because they already have their minds made up and that can piss off fans of Nintendo wanting some of their games, do you think that's still Nintendo's fault?.

Alrighty then, I'll expand on my point and say that I think it's a terrible idea, namely for the "What if it sucks?" rule.

I don't mind people getting passionate about their games. If I have played a game that needs more attention (I've been whoring myself out to Spec-Ops on Facebook and on here a few times this week as it's less than $5 on Live right now...last day of the deal so you should totally go buy it if you haven't).

However, what has been the main lesson that we as gamers should really have learned by now? I'll give you a hint; it involves Aliens and there are some Colonial Marines in the answer...

We gamers are such funny creatures, aren't we? We decry the evil practices of developers trying to force feed us pre-orders and why it's such a terrible idea...unless it's a game we really really want in which case you should pre-order away! Why bother with the lessons of the past when a game you really really want is coming out?!!

You're putting an awful lot on a sequel to a game that was good in order to....spite Ubisoft? Spite gamers that call the Wii U not hardcore? Hell, I wouldn't be so against this if the game was out and you knew it was great...

By all means, don't let me bring you down (even if I did just spent five minutes and three paragraphs stating why it's a terrible idea). I'm just pointing out that maybe the roll should be slowed before you end up with egg on your face and you end up with Bayonetta Colonial Marines in your hand...

Just a little jab, mate.

I find it a bit odd though that a system seller would need this type of movement to help spread awareness. Nintendo bought the rights to make this game, heck, if it wasn't for Nintendo the game wouldn't have been made at all. They bought the brand to draw in gamers to buy their system, so you'd think Nintendo would do all it can to put this game in the public's eye well enough on their own.

And Ubisoft saying they don't think "mature" games sell on the Wii-U is just a bullshit spin on their part. They just rather say that than 'We think the monetary gain isn't worth it when compared to the money we'd have spend to properly port the games over'. Even if Bayonetta 2 is a big hit, it likely won't change Ubi's mind. The big publishers are staying on the systems that are closest to eachother tech wise.

It's a nice symbolic gesture, I guess, but not much else.

Their absence from the 3DS is what truly baffles me. You'd think with how they whine and moan about budgets and needing to sell more and more copies they'd look to the 3DS to help diversify and bolster their profits. And that's before we get into how obsessed they are with M-rated material which, at the end of the day, is doing nothing more than alienating themselves from younger consumers and players which in turn makes their audience shrink. I've since given up on trying to understand why these guys make such terrible business decisions. If they want to drive their companies into the ground I suppose that's their decisions, but history won't remember them as anything but idiots.

Well, I finally learned what a Wii U looks like a couple of days ago thanks to some user's random post, so it's working. Effective, if not very efficient.

I know that Bayonetta 2 will be one of the few games I will buy new this year (hell I think I might even pre-order since the Wii U is just on the horizon). It's nice of the fanbase to do this, even if I probably won't add any more than the average fan (buy it new, tell friends how great it is).

One million copies? is that it? These guys have game budgets running into the hundreds of millions. And they do not make hundreds of dollars profit per customer. Try getting ten million people to buy it and they might notice. Good luck with that.
