Opinions =/= Objective Facts

A lot of people seem to think that opinions are objective facts, they are not. Skyrim is not objectively the best game of 2011, if it was no one could like any games from that year better, and people do. This is just an example, Skyrim is really damn great and deserves to be acknowledged for it. This isn't even about Skyrim it seems to happen with everything. I'm just really sick of people thinking that whatever opinion they might have it is suddenly a fact.

'2+2=4' is an objective fact, you can't argue it.

'MW3 is the best FPS ever' is subjective, it's an opinion, if people don't share it get over it, they are not somehow wrong.

Actually there are certain areas of math where 2+2 does not = 4, but that's just me being a jackass.

As for the matter of people's opinions not being facts...that's a pretty well-known fact itself. True, there is no way to factually prove that Skyrim, for example, was the best game of 2011. However a general concensus in these cases can be reached. And general concensus does seem to be that Skyrim was the best game of 2011. This is where the concept of awards shows comes from. Personally I think 99% of what comes out of Hollywood these days is absolute crap, as such I disagree with every nominee for Best Picture. But society at large seems to enjoy putting things on pedistals, and that is why mass-opinion becomes opinion-based fact within the context of whatever/whoever was judging it.

Yet if we dont not view our opinions are truth they arnt really our opinions are they now? The flaw actually occurs in a problem to do with a lack of Theory of Mind.

I don't really like any awards shows, the Teen Choice Awards have got to be the worst though, I'd take the crap that is the VGAs any day over that insult. However more on topic, the general consensus that Skyrim was the best game of 2011 is fine, the people who assume that general consensus = unarguable fact is what what bothers me.
