Okay, so I've seen Prototype get everything from a 6.5 to a solid 9 in various review media, and I'm curious to discover what the mainstream gaming public thinks of it.

The main complaint seems to be with the graphics and the utter illogicity of allowing hyper-parkour while in disguise while the rad superpowered combat and movement continue to be selling points.

So what do YOU think?

(Yes, you sitting at the computer)

you don't feel like the badass you're hyped up to be because there's so much going on and you can't see where anything is coming from because the camera decides to speed up and slow down whenever it feels like it.

its not hard because it's challenging like Ninja Gaiden, its hard because its presentation and execution are incredibly frustrating

Good points: Fun game, solid gameplay, not too easy, not too difficult. Fun to roam.

Bad points: Mediocre voice-acting, uninteresting plot.

I'd rate it 8/10, for good fun and not much more than that. Certainly no masterpiece, but definitely worth its price.

I felt it was well balanced and very fun :D it also has a great good base of a story line and the main char is a well played anti-hero :)

I thought the voice acting was really good, Alex's voice was mesmerising.

The combat is really tough when there are a bunch of helicopters and tanks on your arse, you're mostly reliant on throwing cars in between desperate sprints so you're not overpowered. Nor are you too fast since the helicopters can keep up with you. There was one mission after which I had to escape the military. Each time I took a different route and got my balls crushed after 5 minutes of mad sprinting with brief intervals during which cars were thrown at helicopters. It took me about ten goes then I managed to get away by disguising after dashing behind a building a split second before the choppers appeared, pulse pounding action that will keep you on the edge of your seat, it's brilliant.

I agree the plot was mediocre and the game too short, a revelation which gutted me but it is very fun. However part of the plot relies on you, if you uncover the web of intrigue then it's awesome.

My only complaint with Alex's agility is the record breaking amount of times you can ***** slap Isaac Newton in a single minute, yeh I know it's a game but gliding with no wings or anything? come on. Jumping and such is awesome but I wish it was possible to jump at a lower angle, it seems that he never leaps at an angle lower than 35 degrees.

ahh sorry, I seem to be channeling the spirit of my physics teacher.

All in all I'd give it and 7.5 to 8 out of 10.It's extremely fun and it's worth every cent.

I have to say there's nothing more satisfying than bisecting a street full of people in one massive sweep.

I've heard it given a ten by one of my friends who wouldn't notice a terrible plot if it smacked him in the face, but he's certainly a hardcore gamer so I can't imagine him liking it if it didn't have amazing gameplay.

The background story and plot are terrible (genetics =/= magic, I'm sick of games claiming that it does), the gameplay is decent, although I can see me getting sick of it before it ends. And honestly, would it have killed them to have made the powers even remotely make sense? How is it he can glide, with no mutation. Why not just throw wings on him or something, at least then it wouldn't feel completely wrong.

I would really like the hard mode to start off unlocked, some of us don't need to have our hand held when playing through games for the first time. Really, it isn't hard, quit your bitching.

Overall I'd give it maybe a 6/10, if I had to rate it numericially. Probably worth hiring but certainly not worth $100.

It's a fun game, no doubt about that. Perhaps a bit too bloody at times, and the main character is a mass murderer, but what the heck. The powers are awesome (go Mass Tentacle Rape!) and the free running is truly wonderful to experience. Also, it handles pretty well, and from what I hear it's actually easier to play with keyboard+mouse than with a controller.

The plot is not THAT bad. Specifically, if you just play the main story, the plot is crap, but if you bother to collect the Web of Intrigue targets (specific individuals whom you can absorb and gain their memories) it starts to gain a bit of depth and is actually pretty solid and well told.

The graphics are all over the board, with the main character and his superpowers being detailed and awesome, the enemies are pretty good too, the civilians are a bit bland and the city is kinda blocky. However, the near absence of loading times makes up for it, and nothing is actually ugly.

The voice acting is adequate and I'm not quite sure why everyone is calling it so horrible. However, if there is something awful in that game, it's the vehicle sections which are hell in its own right, complete with crappy controls, no sense of direction, sluggish aiming, etc.

Overall, 8/10. Good game, rough around the edges.

Why "both" consoles? [Prototype] is not an exclusive.

Just have played InFamous yet and absolutely love it for it's story, looks and moves. From what I've heard and seen it's more a choice of what you prefer in a game.

Both are sandbox, are about superpowers, bad voice acting and both have their names written in a weird way.

I've been hesitant to buy [Prototype] yet, because I am not too much into rampage simulations and from what I've seen, it seems to be the main selling point.
It really comes down to what you prefer, a nice story and choosing the superhero/-villain path or run around and kill everything in 3 gazillion ways.

I couldn't really give a fair review, I fell for it the moment I first heard of it (about a year after it's initial announcement, but there you go...)
For me personally I'd give it a 10, just because it turned out to be everything I was hoping for, as it plays like a combination of two of my most enjoyed games of all time; Spiderman 2 the movie the game and Dead Rising.
As a slightly more unbiased opinion I'd give it an 8. There's a lot left to build on and a few of the side missions are lackluster. The story's a standard cop-out but it's presented in an engaging way. The lock on is actually good, genreally focusing on the most immediate and nearest threat, though in some of the bigger brawls it tends to go haywire.
My take on the voice acting is that it fits the roles but it won?t win any awards.
Driving the tanks are a pain though, as they often weave in one direction when you want to go in another and they can?t strafe to save their short short lives. Also when you get in one every civilian and his dog will dive right under your treads in an annoying and extremely hillarious testament to crowd dynamics.
So, yeah, it?s awesome, extreme and fun, but that?s pretty much all it is. :p

The game is like running, screaming into a vertical difficulty curve. At first you feel like a god but by the end game actually using your powers will have a million and one rockets flying at you.
The game is fun but other than combat and parkour there isn't much game at all. Unless you memorise combos you will end up just standing next to enemies mashing (x) until they die. Health naturally regenerates but it is incredibly slow and the only safe way to get your health back is to get to an infected zone and consume everyone there. The military just aren't afraid to minigun a crowded city street to catch you.

So if you like combat, rockets and constantly needing more health than this is the game for you.

Also despite completing the whole thing, I still have no idea how to turn off the damn tutorials which like to pop up and remind you that jumping is still the same button it was five minutes ago.

Meh, guess I'll just wait until Yahtzee rips it a new one and then, and only then, will I admit it's not the best game I've ever played.

Why does Yahtzee waver your opinion if its the best game ever? If it's the best game YOU've ever played, then no one should be able to stop you from saying / liking it.

As for Yahtzee reviewing Prototype, its really unlikely that he'll review Prototype, considering he reviewed inFamous (there's still the chance though, considering he doesn't care about the genre).

Use the search bar, but be warned, there are at least 5 billion threads, and more fanboys.

It looks a lot like the spiderman game did, where you run around buildings and never actually go in them and then you slaughter enemies by the dozens with your magic powers. But this isn't my experience, just what I see.

It's hard to put into words what I mean here, but I'll give it a shot. Prototype is a game of moments. It's memorable for the crazy fucked up things you'll do with your powers like jumping off the Empire State Building onto a civilian, using him as a human surfboard down the street, then jumping off him, switching powers in mid air and elbow dropping a tank.

On the other hand, you have inFamous. The electricity powers are fairly standard. There's the average bolt which is like an infinite ammo pistol, electricity bomb which are basically grenades, etc. It's a third person shooter in disguise as a superhero game. But it has interesting characters, a cool setting, and an intriguing plot. Whereas Prototype's plot is likely to get lost in a wave of blood and carnage, you'll remember inFamous for the experience as a whole, and you'll spend time discussing theplot, and where it will go next as opposed to any exceptionally cool stuff you did along the way.

Ultimately, I'd say to get both since they're both completely different representations of what a superhero game can be.

Prototype is great. And it's hard and challenging - especially later missions, most of the hard ones are protecting tanks or other vehicles.

But also the further into the game, the better upgrades are unlocked for purchase. Like the one you grab your hammerfist and launch yourself for hundreds of meters. Or dive from a tall skyscraper into enemies. Yeah, you DIVE. Head to the ground. Or simple cannonball into a helicopter.
