I'll state this right now, I am not trying to start a flame war or piss anybody off. That out of the way, I want to know what y'all think about the Star Wars movies, including the Clone Wars cartoon as well?
Do you consider the new trilogy and it's off-shoots (the animated Clone Wars and such) just as good or even, God forbid, better than the original trilogy?
Do you think the new trilogy should never have been made?
Should the new trilogy have been sequels instead of prequels?

If a thread like this has already been made then I apologize for starting another.

I like the first 3, and I hated the last 3. I found the originals to be better in every way.

I'm still in love with episodes 4-6. 1-3 dont deserve for me to use them to wipe my ass.

They were bad but I still enjoyed them. I still love and prefer the original trilogy.

As for the animated series "meh", not bad but not great.

I didn't watch the animated series, but I did watch all the films. Numbers 4, 5 and 6 were decent films on the whole which had a lot of action, heart, story and atmosphere. Numbers 1, 2 and 3 were cash-ins on the whole and they had a lot of: special effects; please-take-me-seriously staring; an over-willingness to try and connect with the older films and; Jar-Jar Binks.

It seems like such a cliche to say but the latest trilogy really are not good films, but the original trilogy are. There's still a ton of debate over just how 'good' it is that a bunch of midget bears crushed an overfunded army of space-age-super-soldiers, but it was still part of a trilogy that we remember fondly, and more importantly, that we watched when we were little.

I wonder, if we were to test today, what would happen if you showed all of the films in the order of Episode 1 first to someone who hadn't seen or heard of Star Wars.

The original Clone Wars cartoons that were supposed to bridge the gap between Episodes II and II done by Genndy Tartakovsky were amazing. Each of those mini episodes were better than all of the prequels put together. It kills me that they have been forgotten.

Moving on to the original trilogy...

I did not like Return of the Jedi. There are so many stupid things about that movie and I don't want to dwell on the stupidity of the Ewoks, but come on. They were damned teddy bears. Also, the story really doesn't end. The Empire still stands, nothing changed. Don't tell me stuff happens in the books. I refuse to watch a movie then continue the adventures in novel form. If it starts as a movie, it ends a movie.

The Empire Strikes Back is really the only great movie in the bunch. Yes, the original even has it faults. That said, I still love the first two. I have great memories of them and always happily watch them.

Don't even get me started on the Special Edition raping of my childhood. How dare George Lucas put Hayden Christianson in the ending on Endor!

That's right I didn't mention Greedo shooting first!

...Damn it!

I liked all. I loved the originals but the new ones are tolerable (and would have been really good if there were no: Midichlorians and Anakin angst). I hate all the stuff they added to the Original Trilogy though.

i liked all of them, i'm one of the few escapists who actually saw all 6 on their original run in the theaters. there are tons that can say "oh i grew up with Star Wars" yet i actually did, episode 4 was the first one i saw in the theater, when i saw it, it still say "Star Wars" and NOT "Episode 4 A New Hope" at the beginning text scroll.

i love hearing everyone complain about Jar Jar and how he ruined the franchise, it's much like how everyone complained about C3-P0 and R2-D2, i even remember people cheering when C3-P0 got dismembered in Empire.

oh and as for people complaining about whiny Anakin, they also complained about how whiny Luke was.

i kinda actually laugh at it all

Loved the films not so much the animations ones. Mind you general Grievous was a let down. I thought he killed Jedi for fun and then... Ughhh. Enough said.

I worship the "first" trilogy, that is, the originals.

The prequels were okay, they just didn't do it for me. Though I do hold a soft spot in my heart for the opening space battle sequence in RotS.
