Valve has made concentrated efforts at generating goodwill amongst their customers. For the most part, they have been successful. Of course it's a business strategy. So what? EA has made concentrated efforts at gouging and bilking their customers at every turn. Their naked disdain for the people who buy and use their products is palpable. Does that mean their products are bad? No. But all the antipathy you witness directed towards them in the gaming community is well earned.
