Sigh. I came in here hoping to dump all over EA for another dick move. Instead they are being all reasonable and shit. Oh well, you'll do something reprehensible next week EA.
lol. well, they are getting a bit better lately. but yes, there is always something that has to come up that makes them look bad again.
but for now, thats alright and fair, and even i got a refund without any hassle so that i can purchase the season pass version, because i would have bought the extra maps anyway. so for this EA gets a thumbs up from me.

Fucking with the game files will nearly always get you banned in a multiplayer game. This is not a surprise nor something I'd actually blame Origin, EA or the Titanfall guys for. A modded .exe file is usually what separates legit buyers from pirates.

empty threats. no one will be banned for a fixed .exe file from origin. otherwise tons of people would get banned each time data gets corrupted.
this reeks a bit of "EA made him say it", but it's just not plausible from a technical standpoint. no way.

what is more concerning in my opinion is that the game is already full of cheaters. and from the battlefield series we know what a notoriously terrible track record EA has with managing those.

I dunno. If it has offline/LAN multiplayer (like the COD series, and these are the same guys), then you can do the same thing with a regular access copy as well.

Hmmm... Yeah, I think I'm calling it now: Titanfail.

Something is going to go hilariously wrong with this game, except that it won't be funny for anyone who's buying. But we seem to be falling into a pattern, by which we see Wile E. Coyote trying to avoid getting flattened under a rock that he's fallen off of the cliff with and comedy just keeps flipping him over so that he gets the crush anyway.

Hang on... So this is people that bought the game that CRACKED it, risking a ban, in order to play the game earlier? Because that just sounds like a lot of stupid people to me.
Going to crack a (nearly?) multi-player only game to play early before any other players or servers are running. Genius.

OT: I don't see why EA really cares what a tiny subset of people (who purchased the game legitimately) do when it ultimately doesn't impact their business or the gameplay of other players. I guess it's more the principle of the thing that they aren't as in control of the game's release as they'd like to be.

Also, am I the only one who is puzzled as to why someone would want early-access to a multiplayer-only game? I mean, it's like breaking into the field to get there before the rest of the team. You might as well wait until everyone else is on board.

Yes of course, it's not like the open beta already had a bit of that to it. Though it is decidedly an unfair edge to get the game in advance of others when it's multiplayer only.

I'm actually amazed this is coming out on the same day everywhere. EA usually pumps things out 3 days early stateside so when EU players get on everyone else already has all the worthwhile toys and has memorised the maps, quite unsporting really.

I would like to point out to anyone who has an issue with this that Steam's official policy is that using cracks or VPNs to circumvent the release date is bannable.

I dislike Origin and will not be playing this game, that said, he never said you could use a work around to play the game early. He said if you had a legit copy and played early you would not be banned, from context you can see he was referring to console players.

It's not like you can get access to Titanfall without owning a full license anyway. You have to have the game pre-loaded and a key attached to your account for the work-around to work in the first place.

"It's unfair to get a head start" people claim, well.. perhaps we should start demanding that games avoid the unlock systems that have become so mainstream these days?

As far as advantages against people who play casually? The unlock system has made sure of that. Weapon balance is still pretty stupid in Titanfall, and casuals will get absolutely dominated anyway. In a week it won't matter and will still have the same "You must spend this much time being cannon fodder."

Yep, found that out 10 minutes after posting. Good job EA.

To my knowledge, no one's been banned yet for doing this, so it sounds like EA's taking the smart approach here: let the people playing early off the hook since the work around is completely harmless, but warn them about mucking around with game files in the future.

I'm not condoning hacking, but I highly doubt that Origin can afford banning players. They sorely need a userbase for anything not Battlefield related.

Can they afford not to ban people? Its a catch 22 issue, for they could lose people because they ban people, but at the same time if they don't take action it could cause people not to buy the game for they don't trust EA to prevent cheating.

no, see, this means you can do it before your opponents can.
thats the whole point of early acess copies.

Piracy and cracking are not the same thing. They are not pirating the game but modifying the game they have bought and downloaded early from Origin.
technically correct. But what they are doing is still illegal, and even if it werent its against their terms of service for which they have a right to terminate the service (banning).
It saddens me that we live in a world where some people actually believe that cracking is illegal.

This is why large corporations are having a grand old time bending intellectual property law to suit whatever they desire.

Cracking, by definition, is an illegal breaking of of security in effort to circumvent it. So yes, i do believe its illegal, since it is.
