Just to calrify, I do agree with you point, no objections here, and if it wasen't for the fact I don't want to argue with my friend because he is, in short, an arrogant idiot, I would try to force it into his hit that Origin will fail and go down burning.Master Kuja said:HAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.
I'm not touching Origin with a fucking 10 mile long barge pole, why would I want a more restrictive, memory intensive version of Steam? Why would I encourage EA's bullshit of making titles Origin exclusive?
Herp derp let's ignore the largest digital distribution market around.
Brilliant guys, you really think many gamers will give up Steam just because you have BF3/ME3? We gamers are a fickle bunch and EA has proven that they'll dick their customers time and time again just because they can, I doubt you'll find many people porting over from a distribution channel they have hundreds of games on just to use EA's shitty service.
I do not know what EA are thinking here, sure, releasing Origin to compete with Steam is sound on paper, but in practice you potentially deny millions of sales to yourself just because we don't want change. It's practically corporate suicide!
That is exactly as I understood it, but as I said, I misread it at first, But yeah, thats my opinion in a nutshell.Griffolion said:I've heard rumours that EA will pull all games (including BF) from Steam once Origin goes full power. I doubt it and certainly hope not, I don't want to have to be locked in to another service just to play BF3.
But I will always stick with Steam, it's a great service, they've had years of experience in the business and haven't really put a foot wrong (with me) during my time with them. Plus when they have a sale, they seriously have a sale.
I'll take his steam account if he doesn't want it!Elsarild said:another very firmly believe he will use Origin for his online games, and disgard Steam (even though he has 150+ games there)
Indeed. From my glancing at news, I don't think EA will physically stop BF3 from going on Steam (stupid move to deny the most popular PC gaming distribution platform) but Origin will house exclusive in game content not available anywhere else. From what I've seen, it will be a few new weapons (including one specifically for campers, wtf?) etc etc.Elsarild said:That is exactly as I understood it, but as I said, I misread it at first, But yeah, thats my opinion in a nutshell.Griffolion said:I've heard rumours that EA will pull all games (including BF) from Steam once Origin goes full power. They did do wrong, but in the end, it always came out positive, the worst was my pre-order for H.A.W.X. beeing delayed 2 weeks or so after retail release for no reason they wanted to tell me, only to give me a refund, and then the next day, it was up... balls...
Fuck that noise, the Aussie Dollar buys 1.06 US dollars too. Yeah if I want Crysis 2 or any other EA game I'll be buying it in a couple of years in a discount bin. If they do 75% off sales maybe they might get a little custom from me, but gouging prices like that? Fuck it, I get World of Tanks for free.Zhukov said:Ha! Give money to EA? Willingly?
No way.
Hell, I would buy retail just to keep as much of my money as possible away from EA.
Besides, Origin's Australian prices are bloody ridiculous. I checked them for Alice: Madness Returns. $80AUD. it's cheaper to import the damn thing via Amazon. Oh, and the Origin US price for the same game? $45.
Yeah...
Fuck you, EA.
this is true, if anything they should've just had some exclusive small content of an add on if you bought it from origin, say like a few free start up items at the beginning or maybe a small extra quest for some easy XP at the beginning.Sp3ratus said:Exactly. Or better yet, looking at their publisher catalog: http://store.steampowered.com/publisher/Electronic%20Arts reveals that there are actually a whole bunchload of games still available.Aris Khandr said:A quick search on Steam reveals that The Sims 3, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect are all still there.Elsarild said:They have, as far as I know, all EA titles has been pulled from the store, the games you already own are still oyur on steam, but Steam isn't allowed to sell any more EA games there.
That being said, EA has always been stingy with pre-order bonuses when it comes to Steam. I don't believe for a moment that Steam making DA2 available for pre-order the day after the free upgrade to the Signature Edition offer ended was any coincidence. So when it comes to major EA titles, I'll probably use Origin. Also, Origin has the FIFA series, which Steam never bothered to acquire for whatever reason. So I'll certainly be getting FIFA 12 there.
Widespread use of Origin will depend on whether EA has something to offer. Pre-order bonuses will only get them so far. For games that I don't pre-order, it will likely come down to price. EA loved doing "Buy two or more, get everything half off" sales with the EA Download Manager, which was the precursor to Origin. If they keep that up, I can see buying quite a few things through Origin. Nothing like getting a brand new game for 50% off just by spending $2.50 for that Mass Effect DLC pack I never bothered to get, right?
I agree with the DA2, it was most certainly not a coincidence. I still think it was quite silly and still haven't bought DA2(not entirely because of that, I'm waiting for it to go down in price as well).
The move make TOR available only on Origin, when it comes to digital download is certainly an aggresive one, to promote Origin. From my point of view, while I can understand why it's done, doesn't seem like a good one. Rather than getting Origin up and running, I think it'll make TOR less popular, that it potentially could've been. I'm still going to try it out, but again, it just seems plain silly to limit your sale of such a multi-million dollar game.
I'm pretty sure filling a niece is pretty illegal in many countries. =pElsarild said:What is you toughts? does Origin stand a chance? or does it just fill a niece in the Digital distribution market?
I am not god/amazing at economics, but it doesn't always depend on the overall "worth" of your dollar/currencyoctafish said:Fuck that noise, the Aussie Dollar buys 1.06 US dollars too. I'd hope so too, I hated using GFWL for bulletstorm and I don't want to have an online service pushed on to me by EA of all companies, I'll definitely be boycotting it until they return games to Steam.njsykora said:I expect to see all EA's games back on Steam before the end of the year.
