I recently picked up the first fallout (and the other older ones via steam package), and I gotta say that games have gotten easy.

Fallout 3, right out of the vault I could take on a raider camp single handedly with a pistol and what ever I pick up off the poor guys who had there head blown off in 5 directions.

In Fallout 1, I'm lucky to kill a scorpion without having to sit around and heal.

Any tips for a new retro gamer?

Pick up Ian from Shady Sands. He'll probably kill you with his SMG a few times if you're melee, but a small guns character (which you should be at first at least) will have better luck.

Don't be afraid to run away if you have to! Radscorpions are quite tough for a low-level.

Well, I suggest you try to do the rad scorpion cave quest. You may have to go back to town and heal pretty often, but when you're finally done, you'll get some decent equipment and will have gone up a few levels. By then you should be ready to take on the world.

Simply put, you're going to spend a lot of the first portion of the game running away from enemies and quick saving.

My advice to you is not to waste skill points on the useless skills. You will be ruined if you don't build your character properly. Skills like gambling and barter are worthless.

Retro RPGs don't give a fuck about you, they hate you.

They delight in ramming their low-resolution knife-dicks up your inexperienced asshole.

For Fallout 1 and 2, I advice you to loot the bodies of your enemies, and buy a fucktonne of stim-packs.

Run away from the random encounters if you want to save your own skin or just ammo.

And I have had to restart a few times after being murdered. Realized kinda quick that being a charming individual is a good way to end up dead

Play Fallout 3 on a harder difficulty so it doesn't come as such a big surprise when you die?
I dunno, I nevr played the originals. Maybe you could look about for a guide on correct use of skills or something.

Try to use your pistol often and scavenge what ever ammo and stimpacks you find, No matter what at the start of the game i have nothing, but at the end of it i sit on a stockpile of stimpacks, plasma rifles, and dont ask me how, but i managed to get over 999,999,999 caps( i think that was the limit).

The game becomes a bit easy after you get the power armor

I found both Fallout and Fallout 3 to be surprisingly easy, hopefully Fallout 2 will be more challenging.

There's a Plasma Pistol in the Necropolis sewers. Go get it.

I found that being evil is the best wayin Fo1 and 2, esecially 2 as you can just do all the gang missions in the den and kit yourself out with something half decent. Like metal armour and something better than the pipe rifle.

Stealth is terrible. Half the time you can't sneak up on someone, and even when you can you only have a small advantage over them. Investing in stealth will get you nowhere.

Not really. I had little trouble when I played the first Fallout, and I played it after Fallout 3 so...
Anyway, here are my tips.

1. Loot everything.
2. Try and have high Intelligence.
3. Click everything.
4. Avoid fights whenever possible.
5. Try to pick up a shotgun or sniper rifle if you're a small arms character.
6. If you're a melee character, get a sledgehammer.
7. Energy weapons? I remember a plasma rifle...

Also, if you have a high luck, travel everywhere, so you get the random encounters... that Red Ryder LE is ''bitchin''

Before you go any further, start the game again and have Intelligence 10 and also a high Agility.

One thing you need to know: the skills in Fallout 1 are horribly unbalanced. There are many dud skills.

Small guns is very important (you dont need big guns, and energy weapons only start coming along later on), as is speech. (you can bipass many obsactles and fights by using your clever mouth, unlike in F3, in fact it is apparently possible to beat the game without firing a shot)

Lockpick and science should also both be high.

Do not put a single point into outdoorsman, throwing, gambling, or barter. Doctor is pretty useless too.

I first played this game 4 weeks ago and my god it is bastard hard. Bear in mind that unlike Fallout 3, the enemies do not level scale with you. There will simply be certain areas you cannot enter at a low level as you will get annihalated.

Wait till you get to the flaner wielding muties who can one hit kill you with 90 point criticals...
