What are some games that have really original cconcepts, enemies, art, characters and background stories. Not original game play style but concept.I already know a few but I'd like to see your idea of original and some more games. Some examples:

Halo: The Convenat are suprisingly original. I can't relate that game to another one. But the UNSC is a way-different story.

Gears: Everything is original! The COG, the Locust Horde and the futuristic setting.

Note:The game doesn't have to be a good one. It can be completely bullcrap but it's story might be quite interesting and original. Just like Starship Troopers.....

Of course the game can't be based on reality. History for example. Or a movie-based game and so on.

Exactly what timeline of games are we talking about here? Because pretty much every modern game today isn't original at all and got its concept from another game. The only games that brought the original ideas to the table are from the 5th and 6th generation.

Though I have to say Assassin's Creed's concept was original. And possibly Condemned.

Our search button is kinda crappy, but I do remember this thread. It's been a while since I've last seen one, so you should be safe.

I can, and it's about 95% of all alien-related Sci-Fi that includes religious aliens. Right off the top of my head: The Protoss from Starcraft.

...Ok, is this a joke? Sarcasm? Satire?
The only thing even remotely original about that game were some features of the Locusts and the chainsaw bayonet (no matter however ridiculous it was). Burying underground and whatnot. I wouldn't call it untouched grounds though. (Ugh, no pun intended. I hate puns.)

Anyway, I've got three for right now.
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee
The Neverhood

(I'm too lazy to find a good showcasing Myst video, so go read about it or something.)

I dare anyone to find anything unoriginal about these games.

Any.

If its original. Put it in.

Here are some games that I dont mean.

Sports,Racing,Historical(WW2,Total War,Age of Empires etc).

Basically if this happened or can happen in real life its not one I want.

Wow I sound demanding....

Well, the locust were original becasue a)Human-like looking men that can be defined with technological savages. Say protoss? I dont think so. They don't have lasers or some kind of uber religiousm. b) the creatures can't be related to any other. Even tyranids or zerg can't be compared.

Also. Just in case someone dare say warhammer or star craft I say

STARSHIPTROOPERS-ALIENS-WH40K-STARCRAFT. Someone dare challenge me to this.

I'll take that dare. :)

Well, as I recall, there were two films that came out before Abe's Oddysee that featured people being used as foodstuffs.

There is of course Soylent Green, where the dead are processed into food and fed back into the general public.

And there's also Bad Taste; a film much closer to this. It features aliens harvesting humans and selling them as meat in a chain of fast food restaurants.

Excellent, so in that case:

Resident Evil/Silent Hill series - Both were undeniably the pioneers of the survival horror genre, with RE being more about realistic horror and SH about paranormal/supernatural horror.

Metroid series - Most definitely one of the oldest examples of excellent 2D non-linear exploration since its debut on the NES.

KOTOR I and II - What better way to play as a character in the Star Wars universe than in this classic RPG?

And their ships look just like the Predator ships.

Vectorman had a pretty original story. A robot accidentally replaces his head with a nuclear warhead, and declares war on all who oppose him.

...

Well, the first part was original.

Maybe a little bit more.

The fact that the artstyle is unlike anything you've ever seen in either games or movies. The fact that you create an emotional bond with an AI character. Not through cutscenes or dialogue, but through actual codependent gameplay. But ofcourse, the same can be said about Ico.

You don't, but I do.

I dare say, that SotC is the most original game I've ever played, regarding storyline and concept. It's nothing short than brilliant.

Dungeon Keeper, allthoug I'm not sure, if it was the first game introducing the player as an evil overlord.

Silent Hill 2: The only game I know, where every aspect of every design has no other purpose than serving the story.

Kingdom Hearts: Mixing FF and Disney characters into an immersive story and not use a turn based combat-system? Now thats pretty original.

As long as we can do book based games, then i would say Call Of Cthuhlu: dark corners of the earth. (does no one but me own this game?)

I'm sure someone will tell me that it's been done before in some movie i've never heard of, so let me set the record.

LOVECRAFT STARTED THE WHOLE EFFING GENRE!!
plus it's a kick ass horror game.

Spore was pretty original I guess, if we want to go all the way back then I could just say things like Pong.
