So how does one become a mod?

is there an aplication proccess or are they awarded to users for good threads and shit

tbh before i get flamed i dont actually want to be a mod, at least not yet, im just curious to the process the escapist has in place

Mods are chosen out of a certain bunch of users, when there is a need for more mods.
I think they have to be somewhat nominated by other mods or staff, and then a check is done, etc.
Not many people likely to become a mod anytime soon, though, so I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you.

It's more efficient then the old method where everyone's account is given a random number when it's signed up and when the summer equinox is at it's peak, a sacrifice is made as an offering. From there they go to a local chinese takeaway and order the peking duck. The order comes with a free fortune cookie and they take that fortune and convert each letter to a corresponding number that was written in an ancient tablet found at the construction site of their office building.
That number when divided by 3 is the user number they would choose.

Excellent! Now all I need it a supercomputer and I can become a mod!

I believe they are selected at the end/start of the year, based on general behavior, helping other users, being online a lot and being in a good time zone.

Bah! Time zones, I'm on here all the time I'm not at work or sleeping. I also like helping others
