Ouya First Impressions
It is android. You can get to a setup screen that looks like what you'll see on your phone or tablet.
1st: biggest drawback: at this time, out of the box, no Googleplay. I thought anything I bought from there on my android stuff would be there. It isn't.
Ouya, with non-proprietary screwes, invites you to open the box, hack it, mess around. But, for now, the official build does NOT include googleplay, so, you cannot just play your own stuff that already exists on your phone.
2nd: Most of the games are PS2 or under level powered. You could get an SNES instead on Ebay but....
The good:
Great possible future ahead:
1) I hope googleplay is something they add later.
2) My buddy got one with TWO controllers from Kickstarter. They're both there.
3) Duracell batteries. Ever buy a name brand item with remote, and the include crappy never heard of batteries? Nice to know these guys appear to be trying.
4) There is, so far, lots of free to try ware. remember, this whole thing is $100: a lark. Try it and screw around with it. Have fun with these demos!
5) The remote is nice, about as good as a PS3 and has a touch pad. Very nice.
If you have $100 to spend to mess around, go to amazon.com and get yourself one of these. It could be great and is, at this time, a wonderful toy. Will it get AAA games in the future? Maybe. ITMT, you'll have a blast with what you get at that price.
